Option to track short naps to see analysis

I think there should be a power nap option so if i want to sleep for ten or twenty minutes or so, my Fitbit will detect when I fall asleep and set a silent alarm to go off automatically at the end of the nap

Thanks David for the info.

Yes, I will now finish my 1000 days with Fitbit Charge HR and then switch to Garmin.

I love the idea of the smart alarm. I'm always waking up tired in the morning even though I get 7-10 hours sleep on average every night. I'm never sure if I'm sleeping too much or not enough. A water proof tracker so it's more versatile for activities like swimming and shower dancing, ha ha! I really love that you have put the waterproof feature in the new Ionic, but I'm waiting for the price to come down a bit and any kinks to be worked out that may arise with the first launch.

Thanks for listening!

Marva

Smart alarms are all ready requested waiting for your vote.

I'm at a loss to understand the power nap thing,

Please Remember that adding two unrelated suggestions, as requested,, only adds confusion since there is no way to know which is being voted for.

Hi @nicolosponziell thanks for sharing your suggestions. There is a well established discussion here about smart alarms which you can vote on already.

With regards to power naps, can you elaborate? Do you want Fitbit to suggest a nap based on your sleep data? Please expand.

FYI, there are currently no plans to track naps (or anything >3 hours sleep) as per this suggestion.

Thanks!

There are 161 votes for for the suggestion about tracking short naps but mostly to do with being able to set an alarm to wake on after a short nap. I think that asking for an alarm feature is not the way to go, that's what alarm clocks or the alarm or times features in smart phones are great at. Fit Bit's strength is its accelerometer that can track sleep and software protocols that link that to heart rate to track sleep stages.

In general long naps are discouraged by sleep specialists. Up to an hour is OK.

At present the Fit Bit Alta HR information says that naps will be tracked if more than an hour. But they are not tracked if less than that. I suggest that the algorithm be changed to tracking if  the nap is more than 20 minutes or 1/2 hour. For some people naps may well be an important piece of one's overall sleep profile and Fit Bit should be tracking these. My old FitBit Alta did this nicely. Someone changed the protocol and I don't like it.

Sometimes I sleep 10 minutes. I want this captured. I thought I read it captures above 30 minutes sleep, but I am not sure.

So I like to take at least a nap daily and the times varies depending of my schedule. I wonder if Fitbit can implement a setting for Naps called Nap Mode or something else. That you select the Time for the perfect nap and then it will keep track of your sleep (Asleep) once you achieve the rest period of your choice and finally the silent alarm goes off.

Because you can Schedule a 30 min nap but you really end up sleeping less for the simple fact that you body need to fall a sleep.

How about a little section on the app to add sleep notes? That way if the fit bit doesn't accurately track a nap, or if you had to much alcohol, or whatever, you can find trends in sleeping patterns.

Create the ability for us to tell the Fitbit when we are taking a nap so that time is added to the "sleep" amount for the day.  That would you to take a two hour nap in the afternoon and have it 1) count towards your sleep and 2) not make it look like you were just lazy.  As it stands, Fitbit doesn't count it as sleep unless it is 3 hours, which is longer than my naps.

I noticed my Alta doesnt pick up when I nap, it also doesnt pick up how much I sleep when

Im on a flight. I have worn my Alta on several flights to see how much I sleep and it doesnt gather

any information.

Siestas or naps look too odd on the regular sleep graph. It would be great to have a siesta individual graph. 10 - 20 min naps are healthy and would be nice to keep track of them. Also, it seems you have to take a long nap for it to be recognized by the device, would it be possible to change this?

I noticed that sometimes when I remove the device it automatically recognizes sleep, it would be useful to be able to "pause" the device for a couple of hours.

Hello,

Early fitness tracker had an awesome function called "power nap". A user would define his or her ideal power nap time between 15 to 30min and the fitness tracker would measure when the user falls asleep and then wake the user according to previously set power nap time.

This is very useful as it prevents users from falling into deep sleep while napping. It also allows users to easily wake up from the nap and prevents disrupting the sleep cycle entirely.

Could you please please implement that on the charge 3?

Thank you

Couldn't you use the timer for that use case? Set the tonet to whatever duration and just close your eyes 😉

A timer cannot calculate when you are falling a sleep and kick of the power nap time. Also it would not record that sleep boost in your profile.

This is exactly the fester I came to request. A nap/meditation tracker. That way you get some heart rate data and sleep data as well as not interfering with your activity monitor. Great idea.

I tried using the timer function for a quick nap. But in the middle of my nap, a weather notification buzzed, and woke me up!

A nap function would be good, with an added feature to stop your notifications buzzing whilst you are having a nap.

@SunsetRunner you can

- disable notifications while at sleep via the app. (Sleep is recorded automatically)

- disable notifications altogether via long press of the left "button" on the charge

- Or just set your phone to do not disturb/silent or airplane mode. If notifications bug you on the charge I bet you don't want them to wake you when they appear on your phone

- leave your phone out of reach for the Bluetooth from your phone

- disable Bluetooth while taking a nap.

Hope that helps 😉

Yes, this! It would be ideal with a program for polyphasic sleep

The other day I had a nap and I was surprised to see the Charge 3 identified it and add it to the app as "sleeping". So it would be pretty easy to add the "power nap" feature and ensure users don't slide into deep sleep.

Would be even better if it could wake you before getting to a certain phase of sleep. Or for that matter even when in a longer sleep, if it could wake you when you're at a lighter sleep phase between a set time frame (I think there are some phone apps that do something like this but would be great with the fitbit and synced to your heart rate etc.)
