Option to turn off step count (or add "Driving Mode") to avoid erroneous steps/floors

I just got home yesterday from a driving 6 hours in my car and I checked my Fitbit. I was really suprised to see it had given me almost 8,000 steps, 3.24 miles, 134 floors, & way more calories thank I burned while I was sitting in my car.  I looked on the forum to see how to easily delete the steps, miles, floors, and calories so my data would be accurate.  The only way people are fixing it is by manually logging the activity "Automobile or light truck (not a semi) driving" and entering in the duration.  I think that is a cumbersome way to fix the issue everytime I drive because I have to make sure I write down what time I get into and out of my car so I know the start time and duration.  And how does it automatically know the calories burned when everyone burns calories when they are sedentary at different rates.

I think they should add a "Drive Mode" feature that when turned on it won't add steps, distance, floors, & will only add calories burned equal to you sitting in a chair.

You could access the "Drive Mode" either on your Fitbit One or on your phone app to turn it on/off.  If you have a Fitbit One you could press the button till the "Drive Mode" icon appears then hold the button down for 2 seconds to turn it on or off.

On the phone apps you would just go to your device under "Account" and there you could turn it on or off.

You could also have the option to give you an alert when you unlock the phone that reminds you that it is in "Drive Mode" so you don't forget to turn it off when you get to your destination.  It would also be cool if you could use Siri to turn it on by saying "Turn on Fitbit Drive Mode" or "Turn off Fitbit Drive Mode".

I have messaged them numerous times asking them to respond, even giving them the link. I'm very disappointed in their lack of customer service in this regard. Maybe if we all message them on their Facebook page they will have no choice but to listen. Doubtful, but i don't know what else to do at this point.

Add a driving mood in fitbit in which duration it will not count extra steps

A function on the dashboard to allow manual editing (in particular deleting) would be useful.

By the ay why do the comments show oldest comment first - would seem more sensible to show most recent first!

I would really, really like to have that feature. It's not motivating to me to climb stairs, when the fitbit counts windy weather as stairs.

Also the work-around with logging that time as driving didn't work for me, so I have no way of deleting the 8 floors I didn't climb.

Totally agree!!!

I'm not going to create a custom exercise category and delete steps every day. There should be a pause steps mode with an auto resume timer that is configurable. E.g. "disable step count for xx minutes"

Why?

-Drummers (playing drums causes a count of 20,000+ steps in a couple hours.) I want the tracker to keep track of heart rate, but the step count is ridiculous.

-Driving

This is like, 20 lines of code, your programmers could do it in a a few hours. It's been requested many times. Please add,

Thanks,

Same problem here, woke up and noticed my steps were not reset from the previous day. Tried resetting time zone with no success. Tried logging driving but since there is no actual step activity for the day there is nothing to overwrite. This is a MAJOR PROBLEM and will absolutely lead me to purchasing a fitness tracker from another company. Considering how long this problem has existed I assume it will never be fixed.

This wouldn't work for me.  I'm a local delivery driver, I'm in and out of the truck over a dozen times per day.  No way could I constantly be turning the mode on and off.  Make it completely automatic.  If my phone GPS says I'm going more than 15 mph, take a hint fitbit, i'm not a cheetah, u must be driving.  I shouldn't have to turn this off an on a dozen times a day.  If I could turn steps and calories off altogether that would be less annoying.  I really just use it for sleep, and manually tracking exercise mode anyway.

I would like the following cool suggestion to a 'driver mode' feature.. 🙂

 this would be a perfect feature. It would lose all the problems we face. When I drive my motocycle it counts lots of steps and elevation. This feature would solve this problem. Adding also the ability to chose the driving as an activity would also be a nice solution. Push the button, in to activities, tap until you find the driving activity and go...that's it!!!

Why do any of these devices that have gps, falsely record data. It should be able to determine your location and the fact that you are moving at a speed faster than any human could move? Seems too simple a fix to me. I have a charge 2 hr and it recorded 13 floors while I was sitting in the car.

It needs to automatically check gps data whenever the heart rate is too low
to suguest steps. My fitbit thinks I'm cranking out 6,000 steps, at <80
bpm, if it bothered to poll the gps, it'd see waze is running, and I'm at
55 mph.

A mode I have to come in and out of doesn't work, because I'm in and out
about 20 times a day.

Please add a driving mode accessible from charge 2- would make life much easier without having to go back to enter 'driving' to negate steps

It's been mentioned time and time again, but we have yet to see anything implemented.
Many requests and submissions have been put in for "drive mode" and some for "stroller mode".

I would like Fitbit to develop modes for:

  • Drive Mode (Disable step counter & floors in this mode)
  • Stroller / Cart Mode (Make sensor more sensitve)
  • Elliptical Mode (Make sensor more sensitive. The full body elliptical does not count steps to it's full potential. I find I barely acquire any steps after a long workout on this machine)
  • Stair Mode (As of now, a stairclimber does not count any flights.  That needs to be addressed. When this mode is selected, each step will count towards a flight of stairs: X amount of steps = 1 flight of stairs)
  • Ill / Injured Mode (When this mode is selected, you are obviously not going to achieve your normal goals, so this mode will reduce all set goals down 50%)

Some of the submissions with similar ideas are:

"Stroller Mode" submitted by fudge22;
"Add 'Driving Mode' Feature to avoid erroneous steps/floors" submitted by MacWade;
"Automatically log 'Driving' activity when driving" submitted by PureEvil;
"Driving" submitted by Fitstarted03, just to name a few.

I would like to add to the previous submissions to compliment these ideas. They are as follows:

  • On your phone, on the dashboard, either at the top or bottom, have a drop-down box with the listed activity modes.
  • When any mode is selected, it should be marked clearly on the main screen that the particular mode is in effect. This will act as a handy reminder to change it back afterwards.
  • When in Stroller / Cart mode, the steps should accumulate and be awarded badges after set distances. Reason being, when pushing a stroller or cart, you're not only walking, but you're also pushing something, working your body that much harder. I've participated in races, while pushing my kids in a stroller, and let me tell you, it's quite the workout.
  • When in Drive mode, the time should accumulate. Reason being, if the drive time accumulates, it may motivate you to be more active and maybe consider other modes of transportation, such as cycling or running. It's a good way to actually see how much time is spent in a motor vehicle per week/month/year.

For your consideration.

A few days ago we were treated to a FitBit 10 year anniversary message touting some impressive numbers.  Just before that I read an article saying Google, Apple, Garmin and others were churning out highly competitive products that were seriously encroaching on FitBit's market share.  As a result FitBit's stock market value has plummeted.

I got an up date to my Blaze a few days ago.  Since neither the Driving Mode nor the Vibrate intensity problems were addressed - both long standing issues - we are left to believe FitBit doesn't have time to care about our problems because they are too busy trying to innovate fast enough to stave off the attack from the competition.

Frankly, after 3 years and 15 pages of complaints, I feel it's insulting for us to receive replies that keep saying; if enough people complain the engineers will do something to solve the issue.  How many complaints are enough?  I wonder how many users with the same problems have chosen not to raise or confirm an issue because they have read our complaints, seen the lack of resolution and given up in frustration?

FitBit, will you please pay attention to your customer base?  If you don't, how long will it be before the number of new customers can't keep up with those of us who jump ship?

This would be really nice as a feature. I specifically came here to look for a feature request like this, plus it would take away the need to rely on 3rd party apps like DriveBit.

This would be great to have on the Charge 2 - especially as a way of manually triggering it via the watch.

I'm at a loss to what your asking. The request doesn't seem to be related to the subject.

A factory rest will not affect anything that driving would cause.

Add a feature to disable all measurements (EXCEPT HR) when attached to certain Bluetooth devices AND OR use the GPS to determine speed and auto remove steps for a mileage speed we can customize (or maybe 25MPH)..? The app pushes GPS on already..

Yes please! My Charge 2 is going crazy when I'm on my motorbike. I even take it off and put it in my jacket. It still goes crazy 🙂 After 1 hour of driving to work I had a couple of thousand (4k) steps and 24 stairs :D. Kinda annoying to change this every day, 2 times a day!!
