Option to turn off step count (or add "Driving Mode") to avoid erroneous steps/floors

I just got home yesterday from a driving 6 hours in my car and I checked my Fitbit. I was really suprised to see it had given me almost 8,000 steps, 3.24 miles, 134 floors, & way more calories thank I burned while I was sitting in my car.  I looked on the forum to see how to easily delete the steps, miles, floors, and calories so my data would be accurate.  The only way people are fixing it is by manually logging the activity "Automobile or light truck (not a semi) driving" and entering in the duration.  I think that is a cumbersome way to fix the issue everytime I drive because I have to make sure I write down what time I get into and out of my car so I know the start time and duration.  And how does it automatically know the calories burned when everyone burns calories when they are sedentary at different rates.

I think they should add a "Drive Mode" feature that when turned on it won't add steps, distance, floors, & will only add calories burned equal to you sitting in a chair.

You could access the "Drive Mode" either on your Fitbit One or on your phone app to turn it on/off.  If you have a Fitbit One you could press the button till the "Drive Mode" icon appears then hold the button down for 2 seconds to turn it on or off.

On the phone apps you would just go to your device under "Account" and there you could turn it on or off.

You could also have the option to give you an alert when you unlock the phone that reminds you that it is in "Drive Mode" so you don't forget to turn it off when you get to your destination.  It would also be cool if you could use Siri to turn it on by saying "Turn on Fitbit Drive Mode" or "Turn off Fitbit Drive Mode".

I think also adding a feature to say that you are sitting. When I crochet , it counts some arm actions as steps. If I sit for an hour and crochet I could get 250 steps in that hour.

I’m all for people speaking with their dollars, but I'm opposed to using the State (or the threat of the State) to strong arm a company into making such a change.

I am no more happy about the false step counts, but running to Big Brother about it? Really?

So, because I disagree with your tactic of whining to the government about a private business because you (as well as I) dislike the lack of a driving mode feature, that makes me a “Fitbit troll?”

It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the fact that, as a person who understands history and who cherishes liberty, I have a healthy disdain for the Marxist ideal of central government getting involved in the affairs of a private business, could it?

I have problem with my fitbit which when I drive it includes steps or think I've been on a bike ride. This is frustrating as I want as accurate as possible stats.

Is there a way to develop ( like your workout buttons)  a driving mode? So then once you press this on the device it knows that your driving and not to count the steps.

As far as Im aware only way to change it at the moment is create an activity on the app which isn't best solution as I can't all ways remember the times but if all had to do is click on device would be quicker and more accurate.

I know how to manually log "driving" into my Fitbit so it doesn't count the 'steps' that occurred during my drive. However, Fitbit counts driving as an activity and although the steps are reflected accurately, my dashboard always shows exercise and active time incorrectly, because it thinks driving is an exercise. Fitbit should code the driving activity as non-active.

I so very much want this feature please!  I think I have the record for flights climbed because I use a quad bike up and down hills.....  It's making the device quite useless without finding a way to pause it.  I've even tried putting it on pilates - but it still counts floors and most of the steps... grrrrrr

So this feature was requested in 2014 and there's still no action.  This really is a waste of time isn't it.

Create a DRIVING button/mode, you can easily press on your device, rather than going to the dashboard, logs, activities and adding a DRIVING activity to remove the unwanted steps (this is annoying).

Add a Driving mode to the actual device so it knows not to count those steps.

It would also be nice to click on the Graph that's on the Dashboard, the one that shows you how many steps you did at a certain hour and be able to edit that data by clicking on the graph.

For example at 8:10pm it shows I had 249 steps, would be nice to click on that and edit it.  I would be able to add the activity I was doing at that certain time frame.

2018, and still no Driving mode. Come on FitBit?

i use DriveBit, which makes life easier (though not sure why fitbit hasn't added the same feature themselves.  😕

but, Liz, the big problem with driving mode is that fitbit logs it as an exercise.

days that i drive a lot, are usually days i am not getting any exercise. but it still shows/congratulates me that i exercised all 7 days.  extremely inaccurate & annoying, i'm completely unable to get a sense for how many days i am getting exercise!

A drive mode or some steps nulling mode is being requested by users for ever....I posted more than a year ago about it. But no one cares...I don't think they are going to do any improvement/enhancement except for iconic going forward. When my charge 2 dies or I loose it somehow I am switching to something else.

they aren't properly addressing it, however, you do realize there *IS* a
driving activity you can log, right? install DriveBit and you just tap when
you get in the car and tap again when you get out, and it logs your drive
in the fitbit app, or you can manually add the activity through the fitbit
app. both obnoxious solutions for an app tied to our phones with gps,
capable of seeing when we are moving too fast to be walking, of course.

Vote for my post so we can get fitbit to see it..... the more posts it
gets they start to work on solutions
Thanks

I would like an option, ideally on the Fitbit device itself, to pause tracking.  I don't want motions and vibration that happen when I am driving to be counted as steps.  I want to pause it when I get in the car, or on plane, then when I arrive at my destination, to unpause it.  While paused, no motion whatsoever would contribute to the step/activity or any other count.

I think that FitBit is like a ship adrift in the sea - nobody is running it or updating the current models - nobody even answers questions or emails.  a steady string of generalised emotional responses - even including a spelling mistake.... how very personal.  I have given up on fitbit - unless they contact me with a solution - I will recommend that nobody I know ever buys one of these devices.

I too am annoyed with always having to go into the dashboard >> logs >> activities and adding a DRIVING activity to remove the unwanted steps everyday (this is time consuming and annoying).

Just like the others in this post have said, you always have to think back of what time and how long you were driving.

I'm going to install the DRIVEBIT app and see if that helps, but this is a Workaround (NOT A SOLUTION PROVIDED BY FITBIT).

Would be nice if Fitbit came up with something to address this, like a firmware upgrade with a new DRIVE feature as many have suggested.

If I had done a little more research before I paid $150 for my Blaze this past Christmas, I don't think I would of bought this Blaze.

Main reason for my purchase was to track STEPS and CALORIES burnt each day.

Now it turns out the STEPS are not accurate, very disappointed with my purchase.

If Fitbit doesn't improve their existing models and listen to its customers opinion/suggestions, they will lose a lot of customers/less repeat customers willing to purchase their latest and greatest devices.

I have a fitbit Charge 2 since a few weeks which I am very happy with.  But one thing is really annoying:  It counts steps during activities I didn't do any step.  For example while I put my fitbit in the biking mode it counted a huge amount of steps while biking, also as being a musician it counts steps all the time while playing.  I am sure many people are having the same problem. (I know there is the driving mode but it is not always the most practical anf fastest solution)

My suggestion is:  Can there be an update where we can put off the step counting on the fitbit itself or a possibility to easily erase steps?

Castello2811

It would be really usefull to be able to start and stop the "drive mode" as another activity (walk, bike, weight,...) on the fitbit intself instead using the driving app or going to your Fitbit dashboard to change the activity.

Also automatically not counting steps while the bike mode is on would be a great help!

Can you please listen to the users that are requesting a simple change when you roll out a software update. We need to be able to pause steps. As a driver I like to wear my fitbit Charge 2 so that I can track my heart rate through out the day. However this then creates "steps" and today when I have only walked for a maximum of 30 minutes I have accumulated over 7000 steps which simply isn't possible. If there was a way to pause the steps counting for x amount of hours or even a pause/resume option on either the app or the fitbit itself it would improve performance so much. I have seen so many request for this with only a reply saying nothing planned yet. How come something so simple that so many users want is being ignored?

I really would love to be able to stop tracking while I'm driving my school bus. I've tried 3rd party apps but that is a pain and it also doesn't transfer the difference to my challenges or "My Fitness Pal". I feel its not fair to accept challenges when I accumulate close to 4000 steps while I'm driving. I don't care if it has to be done through the app or website but should be a option to do. Thank you.

I got my fitbit a few days ago, and i went on a nice long motorcycle ride on my Harley Davidson Sportster 1200. When i arrived home, i had 15 notifications on my phone and in my email box saying that i had done an INSANE amount of steps. I understand the vibrations can be counted as steps. But not having a driving mode on these devices is absolutely insane. I use the drivebit app now, but it is cumbersome to have to remember to turn it on and off on the phone, i have to pull over on the side of the road to turn it on when i forget.

Hello everyone, sorry for off-topic, but is there a similar problem with Apple Watch Series 3?  somebody knows?

It's enough, tired to use DRIVEBIT app every time before riding, will sell my Fitbit Surge.
