Option to turn off step count (or add "Driving Mode") to avoid erroneous steps/floors

I just got home yesterday from a driving 6 hours in my car and I checked my Fitbit. I was really suprised to see it had given me almost 8,000 steps, 3.24 miles, 134 floors, & way more calories thank I burned while I was sitting in my car.  I looked on the forum to see how to easily delete the steps, miles, floors, and calories so my data would be accurate.  The only way people are fixing it is by manually logging the activity "Automobile or light truck (not a semi) driving" and entering in the duration.  I think that is a cumbersome way to fix the issue everytime I drive because I have to make sure I write down what time I get into and out of my car so I know the start time and duration.  And how does it automatically know the calories burned when everyone burns calories when they are sedentary at different rates.

I think they should add a "Drive Mode" feature that when turned on it won't add steps, distance, floors, & will only add calories burned equal to you sitting in a chair.

You could access the "Drive Mode" either on your Fitbit One or on your phone app to turn it on/off.  If you have a Fitbit One you could press the button till the "Drive Mode" icon appears then hold the button down for 2 seconds to turn it on or off.

On the phone apps you would just go to your device under "Account" and there you could turn it on or off.

You could also have the option to give you an alert when you unlock the phone that reminds you that it is in "Drive Mode" so you don't forget to turn it off when you get to your destination.  It would also be cool if you could use Siri to turn it on by saying "Turn on Fitbit Drive Mode" or "Turn off Fitbit Drive Mode".

Sounds like a good idea. My scooter rides clock up about 3500 extra steps each day on my Charge HR

I get around 3000 - 5000 steps everyday from driving motorcycle / cad each day. And negating the steps via drivebit is inconvenient and easy to forget.. I think this is the only feature missing on this otherwise perfect device.. Pl roll out this feature fitbit..

Je pense que un mode conduite serait un plus... une géolocalisation comme lors des running a pieds afin de pouvoir visualiser les balades en moto serait super

I agree with the others. Please let us edit the data.

The floor climbing feature was the one that attracted me to this device so to be told that its not working and that I should ignore it, isn't good enough.

Let us be able to edit so that the stats are accurate. Then we will be happy customers!

Thanks

YADC (yet another driving comment)

Yes, I found the posts about driving, yes I think the top of thread solution is a good idea, yes, this thread is OLD.  In software dev cycles, Very old.  If it were in my backlog I might not have kept it!  Since there is no visibility into fitbit's backlog, it is unclear if this will ever get implemented.

I just drove Portland, Seattle, Portland for an Agile conference, and got steps.  So.  I could apparently plug it in for the drive, and have it not count anything, I could use a third party app.  I could manually (ahem, that should be a four letter word in computer science) go in a wipe out the exact minutes I drove for which only blanks steps.

It would appear the software model here needs a small tweak.  If this were an open source project I might have contributed a patch idea in the time it is taking me to write this note.

Any ideas how high this is in consideration?  If a competitor does this before you, I would buy their product in a, ahem, heartbeat.  🙂

My English is not so good, but I have a giant problem with the Charge HR! My hometown is a windy city in the Alps and so my charge HR counting floor over floor. Today i walke more than "80 floors!" Please give us a function to delet the counted Floors, which the tracker counted wrong, manually! I dont want to login into fitbit and change in driving 😞 That is no suitible solution! Oh please! Let us delet the floors directly in the app!!!!! Thanks from austria!

I think with Smarttrack an automatic driving detection would be a great feature!

It would be great if you could add the Driving Mode feature to the Charge HR.

My Charge HR is recording too many steps while sleeping, driving, etc.

Thanks in advance!

I have a fitbit surge and I would like to know if the driving feature discussed here has been incorporated into the app or device?... Being an avid biker who does 400-500 kms during the weekend, my surge is giving me badges like there is no tomorrow...

I totally agree. I went on a ride Saturday and logged over 30k steps, went 13.67 miles, had 223 active minutes, 17:06 on outdoor bike, 282 floors, and earned i dont remember how many badges. I had seen where I could go add negative steps but what a pain to add activity for each of these that read wrong. It would be nice to have a drive mode within the app. As of now its too much hastle to change and I dont get a accurate idea of activity for the day. I ride the motorcycle almost daily during the warmer months so in turn my fitbit usually sits on the night stand for the duration of the summer. I have the charge hr.

I would love a way to delete step counts. I'm a restless sleeper and I wake up with a step count of around 30-50 every morning. I know I can go in and add an activity and set it to no calories, but that is time consuming. So a way to alter that with just a click and delete option, like food or activities would be great.

Fitbit should be all over this idea........like yesterday

along with exercise add a driving actiity to automatically remove false steps and stairs climber. Something similar to flight mode of phones.

One of the users have suggested automatic detection of bluetooth connectivity to car and recognise driving. Great idea if it can be implemented.

Dirving on and Driving off should be a simple option on the tracker itself and not going to web.

Provide the next generation trackers with IP68 protection so as to enable users to wear the tracker while swimming or during rain..... Then you can add swimming also an built in activity on the tracker

Try to add on off feature to the device .it counts while driving. it mite be easy to off and on when not in use to avoid unwanted dates and could save battery too...also add some more feature like weight training like that so it mite be useful.only this thing is a disappointment n this device.try to add some more interesting updates. And thnks for updating smart track fr the device. Hope something mite change..

And please make the do_not_count totals update to challenges, public daily totals amongst friends!

The "Driving" activity removes steps, but only from my personal view.

And don't forget the erroneously earned badges as well.

Yes please. So disappointed that a $150 pedometer can't tell that I'm not walking at highway speeds.

I 100% agree. A driving mode option is needed. Same for sports! I was kayaking and it counted 800 steps. I even changed the activity to Kayaking and it still kept the steps!

Or some way to edit or remove steps?? Something.. !

When you delete an activity on the app the associated data should go away, i.e. Calories burned, heart rate, steps. We all know that fitbit inaccurately records steps, so this would be a quick fix when we know an activity is causing "super stepping." Needs to be in the app. I don't take steps while playing piano, chopping veggies, or doing dishes. If I remove the wristband during these times, then I'm not wearing it most of the time! Too busy to go online and remember when I did what. Please fix this!

Please add a driving mode feature so that the tracker will not add steps while driving.  I take the bus daily and I always get a bunch of steps and floors added. This is very annoying. I want to have  accurate calory count. I can't plug in my charge HR while on the bus, and putting in my purse still adds steps and floors.  Since people have been asking for this for 2 years why isn't this feature available?

Very frustrated with this inaccuracy.
