Option to turn off step count (or add "Driving Mode") to avoid erroneous steps/floors

I just got home yesterday from a driving 6 hours in my car and I checked my Fitbit. I was really suprised to see it had given me almost 8,000 steps, 3.24 miles, 134 floors, & way more calories thank I burned while I was sitting in my car.  I looked on the forum to see how to easily delete the steps, miles, floors, and calories so my data would be accurate.  The only way people are fixing it is by manually logging the activity "Automobile or light truck (not a semi) driving" and entering in the duration.  I think that is a cumbersome way to fix the issue everytime I drive because I have to make sure I write down what time I get into and out of my car so I know the start time and duration.  And how does it automatically know the calories burned when everyone burns calories when they are sedentary at different rates.

I think they should add a "Drive Mode" feature that when turned on it won't add steps, distance, floors, & will only add calories burned equal to you sitting in a chair.

You could access the "Drive Mode" either on your Fitbit One or on your phone app to turn it on/off.  If you have a Fitbit One you could press the button till the "Drive Mode" icon appears then hold the button down for 2 seconds to turn it on or off.

On the phone apps you would just go to your device under "Account" and there you could turn it on or off.

You could also have the option to give you an alert when you unlock the phone that reminds you that it is in "Drive Mode" so you don't forget to turn it off when you get to your destination.  It would also be cool if you could use Siri to turn it on by saying "Turn on Fitbit Drive Mode" or "Turn off Fitbit Drive Mode".

It’s so crazy and so,so, so frustrating that this hasn’t been dealt with.

Hi @OmuGuy! Great suggestion, thanks for taking the time to share why you would like to see this option on your Fitbit. I've moved it into a similar suggestion. Hopefully we will have support from other users since more votes and comments an idea has the more visibility and momentum it gains.

I recently had surgery. When I went in, I had to hand my Fitbit to my wife. who spent the four hours or so I was under the knife walking about the hospital. As a result, I had several thousand undeserved steps for the day. Not to mention active minutes and floors climbed.

I looked into deleting these only to discover that all you can do is cover them up by allocating the time to a stepless activity like driving. That worked after a fashion, but it added an activity for the day which threw out my weekly exercise stats by adding an activityt when there wasn't one.

Can we please have a way of excising unwarranted activity cleanly.

YES!!!  PLEASE!!!  We would love to be able to delete erroneous Floor Counts created by the Charge 3 in error!  Until Fitbit can fine tune the altimeter, could we please be able to delete the Floor Counts recorded but that never happened?

My suggestion, instead of starting the count from zero, one should add votes to the existing suggestion.

I also would like to be able to turn off Fitbit, on the device. Not having to go into an app. I don't always have my phone.

It's frustrating realizing that I forgot to leave Fitbit at home. Or I am driving up the mountain to hike but have no way to turn Fitbit off for the drive up. Very irritating.Good to have a Reminder of some sort on phone to remember that the Fitbit has been turned off.

Really like this idea, it's a shame it isn't already there.

As so many others have stated, we need a method to turn off tracking when engaged in activities that our trackers misinterpret as steps or some other exercise. I have an Inspire HR, and riding my motorcycle renders it useless for much more than a watch on my wrist. It could be accessed from the settings screen on the tracker just like the screen wake option. You can easily have an indicator on the clockface to show tracking is off to remind people to turn it back on. Personally, I'd much rather forget to turn it back on every once in a while and not get credit for some steps than to have it erroneously tracking thousands of unearned steps every time I ride. If anyone is that afraid of leaving it off, they wouldn't have to use it.

For goodness sake Fitbit, are you even listening? How long do we have to beg for you to do something about this???

Since this affects so many potential reasons for turning off tracking, it could just be called "Pause." It could keep you informed with a PAUSED notification on the tracker's home screen, which would also serva as a reminder to turn it back on.

I dont think they are listening to what there customers are saying. I mean
really how many times do they need to be asked the same thing

I certainly will not be promoting Fitbit to friends. I am stuck with this one but will not be getting another. They do not seem to be making much effort to improve the functionality of their product as suggested by users..This thread was started in 2014!!

Mine supposedly has an O2 sensor but there is still no support for this function either.

And reason being after 5 and half years of nobody listening?

As for me I have decided to move on. I put my one up for sale and am going with other brands. Been with Fitbit for over 6 years but it's definitely time to part ways now, considering the appalling lack of respect shown to their customers... not even worthy of a decent reply after all this time...

Loyal customers can be the perfect group of people to keep any company going. We give you proven facts, real time error reports, helpful insights and great inputs on how to really dominate the activity tracker market. A feature request from 2014 with 3000+ votes and where the votes are still coming in 2019 shows that you really have a bunch of loyal customers here.

@Opal_owl

Please allow me to disagree. Many loyal customers have been missing along the way and I'm only the most recent one of a long list (if you take the time and patience to go back and read all the pages of this thread). Loyalty is a quality supposed to be working in two directions. So far, after all this time and posts, the feedback has been only one way (beside some repeated useless comments by some moderators). Actually I have to correct myself: apparently the only informative feedback was to a customer in private, stating that the Fitbit company is perfectly aware of the problem and has no plans now or in the future to fix it. How's that for loyalty?

How do I do this on the Inspire HR?  I tried swiping every direction and can't find a place to put in driving mode.  We went offloading over the weekend and I am trying to figure out how to delete about 4K steps.  I put in I was driving, but then when  it imported in the WW (Weight Watchers) App, it gave me EIGHT exercise points. OMG, no!  I wanted Zero points to come in for the 3 hours I choose driving. HELP!

this has been an issue since 2104 any plan to resolve it 5 years later?
My tracker logged 19K steps in a half day of driving (the most I waked was to the services washroom and back)

@AdamNajak

If you have the patience to go some pages back and read the relevant post, you will see they have no intention whatsoever to solve the problem. Yet the new Versa 2 in for sale with Alexa feature... Seriously? And the basic needs like this one reported here for over 5 years (merrily going for 6) are discarded? But of course, they include 3 month free subscription to Fitbit Premium, so hopefully people will spend more money for that after, relying on some unreliable device.

As for me, although being a Fitbit customer for much longer than 5 years, as I said already here, I moved on to Polar (I don't care if my post gets censored for mentioning it) and I just wish I had made up my mind long ago. My Ignite is even much more elegant than any Fibit.

That said, I wish everybody here good luck and I hope this will help at least one person not to trust Fibit any longer, for caring only about their own interest.

Hi,

I recently bought the Versa 2 and I love it.

I just wish we could turn off the pedometer or disable (or pause) step counting whenever we are doing an activity that miscounts steps like playing the piano.

I know I can log A driving activity instead but I find that to be tedious. I have to remember the time I started playing the piano, and how long it lasted. That's rather inconvenient.

There should be a way, menu or button that you can tap, to stop counting steps and then resume at will directly from the device (or the mobile app)
I think it would be nice to have this feature. It would save us time and have a more accurate reading.
