Options for irregular, heavy or no menstrual cycle

This would be a very useful feature for those with irregular cycles, or those that have extremely heavy bleeding.

Anyone with non-hormonal birth control device(s), peri-menopause, menopause, endometriosis, fibroids, or other reasons for dysmenorrhea would find this useful.

I’m not looking for “predictions”- just needing a more precise method to log a health condition.

Also, knowing when I might be “fertile” is a minor annoyance, as I have a copper IUD, and no plans to reproduce.

Thank you for your consideration.

Hi @kathibbertthanks for taking the time to share your feedback regarding the female health function with us. This feature suggestion already exists so I’ve moved your post here. Don't forget to add your vote!

Just want to lend my voice to this thread. I was confused as to what the app was telling me when it said 4 days left... But it was telling me that I have my period today! I do not have my period today, and I cannot figure out how to tell the app that I'm not on my period. My period is completely irregular and fitbit does not facilitate that. I'll be removing the female tracking and moving back to Clue.

Over a year and a half later, still waiting...

Do we want irregular periods? No. So why continue to go to the lengths of building an algorithm that restricts how we report our menstrual cycle when "less smart" apps from over 6 years ago allow us to accurately track our cycles?

I too will continue to disable this feature (useless for me) and use other apps.

I agree with many people here, need more flexibility for irregular periods. Fitbit currently limits periods to 60 days and this needs to be extended for those with irregular periods (remove the maximum number of days). It would also be good to have the option to check a box that says ‘irregular period’ so it doesn’t mess up future predictions (eg. if most periods are 5 days long and  one month a period is 20 days long, it will throw off predictions). It would also be good to have ‘extra heavy’ as a symptom and ability to add additional symptoms associated with irregular periods.

I use the Female Heath to log periods, but I think it should have better options. I am a woman going through the next stages in life and I do not need birth control, sex ovulation test or other events. I would like to make notes instead of other events. Also if I have an abnormal period I can not highlight it in the cycle. All of this is useful for a doctor. The point I am trying to make is not every woman who uses a FitBit product is trying to get or is pregnant. What about  perimenopause / menopause? These are real issues too.

I am 50 yrs old and have just started to become irregular or miss my periods. Currently I edit the predictor to show the delay but I agree something like a simple "log period" prompt might be easier. I still like to track because health professionals routinely ask me date of last period and I can easily pull up the app to be precise. Thank you for considering.

Right now, Fitbit requires you to say if you have your period and if you haven't it pushed the suggestion back a few days. As a woman on birth control, it's normal to not have a period for a month and Fitbit it so frustrating consistently asking me about it or telling me every other day, you're period is starting. It's not. I should be able to say, no period this month and it suggests it for a future date. Not the next day, every day, until it comes.

Hi @jwerd. Thanks for sharing this suggestion about having an option for "No Period" in the Female Health Tracking app. This idea was already requested in the Feature Suggestions board, so I’ve moved your post here. This will help us to keep the forums organized and make sure the suggestions don't get confused, or split a popular vote. To be more inclusive, I think these features should should just be referred to as cycle and fertility tracking or something like that. Not all of those who have uteruses and cycles are women.

The female tracker does not have a notes section or a clot documentation in the discharge section. Many woman experience clots if varying sizes, textures or frequency. The tracker would very helpful with this change. Currently two apps are needed to document everything.

PLEASE expand the period tracking feature!!!! I can write a book on what you should do, but it is easier to tell you to download the Maya app (Period, Fertility, Ovulation, & Pregnancy) or better yet have Fitbit sync with this app 😁. Did a man create this feature on Fitbit 🤣? Because it certainly seems that way!

Some of this is a repeat of my original post, however there is much more detail and information here (the character limit for the original suggestion post forced me to cut everything short!):

PLEASE expand the period tracking feature!!!! I can write a book on what you should do, but it is easier to tell you to check out the Maya app (Period, Fertility, Ovulation, & Pregnancy). This is a link to the app in the Google Play S...  (it's available on Apple too!) or better yet have Fitbit sync with this app 😁. Did a man create the Female Health Tracking feature on Fitbit 🤣? Because it certainly seems that way! Here are some suggestions (but there is so much more other than my notes below that  can be added!):

  • Many  symptoms that you need to add (constipation, diarrhea, dizzy, fever, gas, insomnia, itch, nausea, PMS, spotting, swelling, sweaty, tired, weight loss, weight gain, weak, etc).
  • The moods that we are currently able to choose from are so simple. If you are a woman who gets their period then you know it's more complex than happy, sad, stressed, anxious, fatigued, energized - what about angry, anxious, blue, confident, cranky, confused, craving, depressed, emotional, excited, frustrated, forgetful, naughty, irritated, jealous, lazy, peaceful, romantic, sexy, sleepy, unfocused, etc.
  • Add a space for miscellaneous notes.
  • Have our temperature and weight transfer to the period feature (and vice versa).
  • Then you can use all of this information to predict how we will feel going forward.
  • It is impossible to delete a predicted period. Fitbit only allows you to edit it, not delete it. My period is extremely irregular - I don't get it every month. I had to turn the predictions off in order to properly track my (missed) period. Please allow us to delete a predicted period while keeping the predictions on. This would also help woman going through menopause.
  • You have an option to log the morning after pill but not birth control. Please add regular birth control pills - this medication is so much more common than the morning after pill.

In support of/addition to the wonderful and useful suggestions on this thread, I'd like to see the Menstrual Health Tracker support:

  • Measurement of menses (in oz or ml)
  • Clot amount & size
  • Free-text field to accommodate other as-yet-unsupported factors

100% agree! Please make this feature inclusive for all women rather than just regular, fertile ones.

The app can be confusing and dated. Do I click premium for premium or is it fully integrated in the interface? If not why not. If it is, why the premium tab, it’s an advert? I spend time navigating too much for info. I don’t want a menstrual cycle tab, I’m a sporty 58. The interface does not rotate. The simplest of things rotation...

When I was pre-menopausal, I'd have really liked having a way to track my cycle that's this simple.  I haven't had a period in several years, though, and I have to confess, it annoys me that I can't enter the information that the FitBit app wants - I have no idea when my last period was - and my period length is less than one day long - it's zero.  It would be interesting and useful to track some other related cyclical patterns that are likely hormonal.  But I've dismissed the feature entirely because it keeps telling me that my period is starting, and it's just aggravating that I can't say "no, it's not."

I totally agree that the symptoms and mood options are incredibly limited. More so than any other app I have ever used. It's like it's been designed by people that have only ever had very regular, very minimal periods.

I have medication that can mimic some symtoms such as mood changes, sexual changes and physical changes that I would like to include as a regular symtom Instead of having to add a note everytime.

Having a very long and unpredictable cycle also causes issues as it's so confusing to alter dates. You should be able to just slide it and fix it, no minimum or maximum.

It really let's the fit bit app down in my opinion. I still use a different app.

I have given up using this feature due to the fact it will not let me track irregular bleeds. Totally useless software.

The period length options are 1-60 days. Please extend the lower range to zero. Many of us with hormonal IUDs don't get a period but we still have all the other symptoms. I still want to know when to expect pms next. I'm still a woman. Please stop excluding me

Yes! This is a definite need! It's so inconsiderate to not have these options already in place!
