Show swim laps, times and lengths on Charge 5

Self-explanatory, but virtually all swimmers use lap counts and times to improve their performance, especially DURING swim. Add ability to set lap count as a Goal (not just time) in the tracker. Please add this to all devices. We're thinking of getting Fitbits for our children as well, but without this feature, we will look elsewhere.

Lap count and time per lap is a must to be displayed whilst swimming. Add number of laps as a goal too please.  Should be able to pause too whilst swimming to get a more accurate account of a swim session.

These features were on my Ionic, a watch/tracker I was very pleased with and just presumed these features would be available on the Charge 5.. very disappointed they aren’t.
please update asap.

I do remember the Ionic didn’t have a timer when I first got it and found that quite strange especially with the other features it had and that a timer was standard in most sports devices those days… hence why I grind equally baffling now that the Charge 5 doesn’t have more features available to see on the screen when tracking swimming… least of all number of laps.

I previously had a Fitbit Versa which registered swimming laps during my swim. When purchased the Versa 2 I discovered that the lsps no longer show only via the app. Very disappointed as others state swimmers want to see what laps they are doing during the swim not after ! Please bring this facility back.

Otherwise the Versa 2 is a glorified stop watch fir this exercise.

Hi @Swimmer88, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about the possibility of showing the lap count on the Charge 5 screen during your swimming activity. I noticed that a similar feature suggestion already exists, so I’ve moved your post here, this helps to keeps the boards more organized. Make sure to add your vote as well to support this suggestion, this helps the team of developers to keep track of popularity and demand over time.

Thank you again for your participation in the Community.

Like all swimmers I assume, I count laps to measure performance, and often lose count. It would be great if my luxe kept the count for me, with large enough font that I could read it in the pool.

Please add this !

Agree completely. I was excited to start swim workouts with this watch, but found it is useless for tracking during a swim. I am going to return it.

This has been incredibly helpful. I swim laps once or twice a week, usually 48 laps/1200 yds except after skate practice then I swim 24 laps.

I am interested in a fitness tracker to track swimming laps , miles walked/hiked with GPS tracking, heart rate, etc during hard skate practice.

A primary interest in the FitBit was tracking swimming. If the Charge 5 does not have laps displayed then it is useless for my intended purpose and I will look to see what other trackers are available to track swimming laps. Like others have stated, most pools have a clock or time display which is what I rely on today.

I was ready to find a local store carrying the Charge 5 tomorrow but can save my time. Again all of the comments have been very helpful.

I am assuming the Inspire 2 would be the same since it doesn't even have built in GPS.

FitBit, you have probably lost a potential customer over this issue which seems rather easy to remedy.

I bought the Charge 5 for the ECG feature, knowing that unlike the Versa 3 it was not ideal for swimming, but I did think that it would track, if not show, the heart rate.  I'm not looking for extreme accuracy, because if I wanted to train in a given zone I would buy a different tracker, and I've always counted my own laps so I'll just keep counting,  but I would very much like to be able to get notifications if the bpm exceed a threshhold that I could set.  My primary reason for getting a tracker was to keep an eye on certain key metrics, and it is disappointing not to have the security of knowing that if my heart rate goes above a certain limit the tracker will warn me.  It would be great if FitBit could include this, subject to all the appropriate caveats, warnings and disclaimers.

Many thanks for considering it!

Yes agree with all of the above. Totally unacceptable fitbit

A lap counter that keeps the laps secret, nice one.

After I complete my swim, I now get a message telling me I can view my lap count on the app. I have found it to be nearly impossible to move off of this screen. Telling us that we can view laps on the app does not solve the problem. And making it so difficult to move on to our next set of laps makes the problem even more aggravating.

I agree. The No 1 reason I bought a fitbit was because I kept losing count of my laps. I workout based on laps done and have a workout pattern of 20 laps this stroke, 10 laps that stroke etc, irrespective of the time. Its completely no use to me during my workout with helping me count my laps. Its a no brainer to modify the app to allow you to choose time or laps/distance. Your competitors in wearables can do it - why can't you? Judging by the comments on here, everyone wants it.

Coming up to the anniversary of the moderator saying to "watch this space".

I have done so much looking at reviews and specs of the charge 5 and feel completely cheated that all articles mention that it will log times, lengths, pace etc but intentionally hides that these stats won't be visible during use.

Unless the lap count & elapsed time are visible while swimming I see little
value in using a fitness watch. I walk and figure skate but a cheap fitness
tracker will monitor pulse and BP.

About time Fitbit put this right and give us what they lead us to believe was available functionality of the Charge 5

I'm glad I looked here before purchasing. I had planned to buy the Charge 5, but I need to track swimming laps. I now need to find a different fitness tracker.

Fitbit now loosing sales as the ’actual lived’ functionality of the Charge 5 gets out there may tempt them to do something about it at last.

So glad I learned this before buying a charge. I am looking for a fitness tracker that automatically tracks and displays laps and elapsed time during the swim. If fitbit doesn't display this info during the swim, what's a good alternative?

Please fix this! Its such a shame that you cant see laps. Even my previous mifit of 40 euros showed me the distance I swam, which is a great motivator. Like with any other type of exercise, you want to know how you're doing while you're doing it.

falloutphil

Just to add this is huge missed opportunity given the fitbit is already recording lap numbers and I can access this information on my phone after I get out the pool -  but I want to know how many laps I've done whilst I'm still in the pool, so if I've miscounted I can keep going!   All swimming pools have a huge wallclock to allow swimmers to time themselves, and you can't pause the fitbit between sets due to limitations with the touchscreen, so this is even more redundant.  The charge 5 is adding no value showing how long I've been in the pool for.  What would be massively useful would be a lap counter, and perhaps heart rate monitoring.  This must be trivial for a developer to add it's just displaying an integer on the screen which is already been calculated.

I have found that the recorded lap count shown on my phone after my swim is often incorrect. It regularly shows an odd number of laps even though I always swim an even number. Is it possible that Fitbit decided to not display laps on the watch because it would be immediately apparent that there was a glitch in the lap count feature?

Corikeys

Just acquired my Charge 5 and was looking forward to having my laps counted for me. I’m very disappointed to realize it only times me. I’m surprised a product devoted to health and fitness would think a timer and estimated distance would satisfy the needs of a swimmer.

Please develop.
