Stairclimber Steps and Floors Algorithm Needed

After reading through all the community posts regarding this, it would be great if Fitbit could add a two step process to allow the stairclimber option to accuratley record steps and floors. The first alorhythm would need to be in real time and allow steps to be counted on the stairmaster. Right now since there is not forward movementment the steps aren't recording. I'm sure Fitbit could come up with something to make this process work. Maybe an override or algorhythm specific to the stairclimber mode to count steps based on your movement. The second, and easier algorhythm would translate those steps into floors in the summary on your watch and dashboard. That way we would get our due credit for stairclimbing. I know there are a lot of stairclimbers in the community that would really like to see something like this! Thanks for considering.

The stairclimber activity in the fitbit app allows you to track the time spent on the machine and the number of calories burned. I would like to see additional state allowed. The machines tell you the number of steps you took as well as the number of floors. I think steps are more important than floors but both would be a great addition to the stats involved.

1 vote from me! I didn't even know there was a stairclimber activity!? is that in the mobile app or manual logged activity using a computer?

When I climb or use stairs I have noticed Fitbit Surge adds the floors and also increases the number of steps at the same time; so I beleive the number of steps are getting count as well but its just not dispalying the climbing steps as a seprate feature. It will be nice to see!.

I log it in the mobile app. I have the Charge. I go to log activity and type stairclimber, it pops up and allows you two track the duration and calories only. I hold onto the bars, never changing elevation so my charge wouldn't track each of my steps when I do this exercise.

When I am on the stairclimber in gym, I may climb over 6000 steps but only get credit for zero floors due to the altimeter being used to calculate floors.

I would suggest that when the "stairclimber" exercise is selected, the altimeter is overridden by the step counter and the steps determine floors.  For example, if you log 15 steps on the stairclimber, you would get credit for a floor (15 steps x 8" = 10ft), even though there was no altitude gain.

Thanks.

You can pick stair climber from the exercise menu but it doesn't add any floors to the daily total I did 72 floors last night

Hi,

I have just discovered the stairclimber exercise on my Surge, and I figured I would try that machine. It's a great workout ... but I was a little disappointed to see that my floor count didn't change, even though I totally understand why that is.
So I was wondering if it was in any way possible, maybe with some extra configuration, to actually calculate the number of floors and add that to the regular floor count?

I know it's a little far fetched ... but maybe you guys will have an idea for the implementation 🙂

Thanks in advance.

I was really disappointed when I figured out that I had to manually enter the number of floors when I use a stair climber. I have a Fitbit Flex for a few years and loved it. So when the Blaze came out, since it had the stair tracker and the heart rate tracker, plus the ability to switch between the two devices, I was really excited. As I mostly go to a gym, I never imaged that this figure would be a manual one for equipment especially when I do have the opportunity to climb actual stair and it automatically track the floors. Please fix this!

Steps might be counted based on movement but I defnitely agree that the stairclimber exercise should allow input of stairs/floors. Walking on a tredmill counts for distance, why shouldn't the stairclimber count towards my daily floor goal?

I have a charge HR and want it to count the steps I climb on the stair step machines, or even have an option for me to add these into my flight climbed total.  I did over 40 flights tonight and none of them showed up.  And I don't know how to add them in.

I like this idea! Being able to record/add steps and floors when logging Stairclimber activity would be amazing. Thanks for sharing your ideas, I'll be sure to relay it to the appropriate channel for review.

The Fitbit Blaze doesn't count your floors climbed on the stair master. I understand how the Fitbit calculates based off pressure changes. To get around this I was able to add stair climber as one of my exercises on the band, but it only tracks calories burned. Could you look into being able to manually add floors climbed on the app? I see that this is a popular issue via google search. It's unfortunate that we cannot appropriately track our progress.

I could not agree more. I would even be happy if it was just an option to edit the activity after the fact. I do the same thing on the treadmill by adding my distance afterwards. Most stairmasters tell you your steps, distance, and floors climbed, so it would be great if we could just enter this information after our workout too. I think that would be an easier fix than coming up with new algorithms.

Wow, seriously, over a year later since a moderator addressed this and now
the response. That was quick.

My initial request was in 2015 😕  Sad.

Floors can be tracked automatically if physically going up stairs or manually added later based on a Stairmaster-type machine readout.
