Suggested new food page Format

here is my concept sorry about the quality but it took a bit of working to get a save I could use

this is how I believe the page should look on first opening not the tabs at the top Graph/List/History,

each of these in turn will drop down an overlay with the relevant information - Graph (self explanatory) with the arrows to change between the 2 pictures and hover overs active to gain the details, List - info from the graph in text form and History what is currently at the bottom

new page 2.jpg

Next amend that may be of use is as follows

new page 3.jpg

pretty well explained in the boxes with the exception of the log and add (if you want it to be like the mobile then add this) it allows the next items added to go straight to the mealtime of the last entry ie eggs to breakfast click on the log and add and choose bacon and so on and they will all go to breakfast ok you may have to repeat the procedure if you pre log food for the day/week but it will stop it going back to default Anytime after each entry

Those suggestions would be great.

The custom food quick search could be small drop down with a, b, c either as singles or abc def ghi and it auto scrolls until you get to the start of d or g as the more foods you log now the bigger this will get unless we can delete old foods that are no longer needed (they stay in the main data base for others to use just removed from your log in

remember folks if you like the suggestion post a vote at the top of the page

I like the idea of getting rid of or at least hiding the extremely large graph at the top of the page. And doing away with the default back to "Anytime" when one is logging food would be awesome. Would also like to see what we had on the old version --- food logs for the day at a glance NOT having to consistently click to bring it up. Hope this helps.

Thanks - good idea @BonnieT maybe when the meal has an entry it automatically stays open so you can see the lists at a glace instead of having to click to open to see what you ate - that way you wouldn't need to have the small grey writing that looks cluttered after the meal title - also I have not included a lot of the suggestions from the main thread as those are too many to add into the pictures but there is too big a border on either side that could be expended into, the column titles should be on 2 lines and not one this would make the columns thinner and allow for the expansion of the foods as well as adding the serving size hopefully with a + and - for adding another serving like you could on the old format and where it says food plan we need to be able to set sedentary/pre set or custom active status - I wish I could actually develop and write the coding but im just logical in my outlook

Lanuza Fitbit- Moderator- can you give any update rather than thanking us. What is the stance of FITBIT with the complaints of the poor usability of this new screen?

@Posting I think there is a little misunderstanding - this page is not for complaints but for a suggestion that I thought may help to alleviate some of them - yes it is still in the newer format, but its is trying to resolve some of the issues on the main thread that is dealing with feedback and comments in general

the link https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Fitbit-com-Dashboard/New-Food-Logging-Page/m-p/3293320#M93142 is where any updates on the new logging page/feedback results of the issues brought up from the change - unfortunately because of the change in the way that programmes have to be made due to Flash not being supported after the end of 2020 means that the new page will probably stay - all I have done is tried to put it back as close to the old page as possible within those confines.  @LanuzaFitbit can help with this latest enquiry

Okay, so the suggestion is the functionality needs a fix for not being able to scroll down when this page is on an ipad ( my only device). I cannot access the bottom part of page to input- and I don’t care about the graph at the top.
I presently cannot use any part of this- the page is just frozen on the ipad.
And the complaints are not a bad thing- you need to hear the customers! This is not user friendly.

@Posting I understand I really do but I am just a regular user of the product that has been trying to help where I can across the 4 years I have used a device from Fitbit - the link provided is the best place to see the updates in reference to the new food log page and is monitored more regularly by a member of staff -

with ref to the enquiry I have heard that they will roll back to the Old Format temporarily while some addition changes / fixes are being conducted

I am no expert when it comes to all things IOS / Apple but is it just the food page that freezes (it does take a long time to load) if other parts of the app are also causing issues then the app may have become corrupt and needs to be un-installed - then clean cache, cookies, and possibly history - restart the device and then re-install the app (not a guaranteed fix but its worth a try if it is more than the one page) - there is also a IOS community on here that may also be able to help https://community.fitbit.com/t5/iOS-App/bd-p/ios looks like someone has also had issues with the app crashing on both phone and Ipad join with them and a moderator will try and provide further information, if you wish you could also give customer support a call the phone number will appear once the office is open (usually 0800 - 1900 Mon-Fri and 1000 - 1700 weekends in the UK)

Customer Support UK

This is for the UK but should you need to change country scroll to the bottom and look for United Kingdom with a down arrow next to it and click on the arrow now you can select your relevant country and the page will refresh

I appreciate your feedback in reference to my suggestion and hope that your enquiry is resolved soon

Running both tools simultaneously is an excellent way to test popularity among its users. I have been a long time ebayer and they have always run several modes and ask for input right within the app so at least users feel as if they are being heard. This would be an ideal and progressive way for fitbit to model after.

But ultimately, I wish the old method is permanently returned. Under the new log I find myself constantly having do the math of converting fractions to decimals in my head for all of my food portions. Thank goodness I am very good at math. Logging my dinner last night took longer than eating it.

It would also be nice to be able to move food from one day to the next since I like to plan ahead and accidentally logged this morning's breakfast in yesterday's log. So I had delete it from one day and re-add it the next.

@Steph418  I totally agree - they done it with the mobile dashboard although we are still awaiting some of the suggestions/changes to be implement and it has been a long long time, I am hoping when this food log issue is sorted they will resolve the outstanding faults some minor some not so

the idea to be able to move or copy an item to another day is a good point and have referred to it in the main post - good call also the fractions and serving sizes have also been mentioned and I think relayed back to the development team

I’m in favor of this update! I voted at the top, but seems people aren’t getting that even though there is a reminder posted.

@StepGrammy  Many thanks for your vote I guess it may take a while to get around but as I have mentioned it to Kate and the moderator who validated it here, they may pass it along as a suggested concept option to be considered or it maybe lost in the not enough interest pile - unfortunately I cannot get people to vote - I just thought if I showed a bit of action on my behalf they can see that my complaints are not just because I have a gripe or don't want to change and I have been active in trying to find a solution to my complaints/concerns

congrats on your 100th  vote received 😉

thanks again 🙂

ashwolve, thank you for taking the initiative on this problem and for keeping us up to date as best as can be done. I, like you, use the food log extensively for the purpose of tracking calories, protein, fats, etc. in an effort to GAIN weight. Trying to gain in a healthy way is difficult but this food Log app, as originally designed, was great. I believe your concerns as well as others concerns are being heard, thankfully. We can only wait and hope that Fitbit creates a product that works for all of us. We're all on standby so we'll see. Thanks again. Also, I voted 'yes' to your suggested design.

@BonnieT  Thank you and I apologies for not acknowledging earlier - I do normally have better manners

I hope you achieve your goal safely are you strength training as well or just food monitoring and cardio (sorry being nosey you don't have to tell me)

I am trying to lose but I think I have hit the point where I am going round in circles I lose a bit than gain a bit hopefully I can regain the losing trend as the weather is getting better and I can get out and about for longer - what is funny is since I started I have actually gained 19lbs unhealthily so have to lose that before I start on my actual goal, I am aiming for 1lb per week any more will be a bonus but slowly and safely is a good way to get there so in total I need to hide 42lbs ideally by April next year

ashwolve, no I'm not specifically doing any strength training, but working in the yard when I can has been a big help. It seems counter intuitive to me but I also know it works building muscle, toning and therefore, for me, weight gain. Believe me when I say it's as difficult to gain weight in a healthy way as it is for most people to lose weight. It's also difficult to find much out there in the way of healthy weight gain which is why I love the Fitbit food log so much. When I think I've eaten enough calories and look at my log I can see I'm under, if not well under, what I need to either maintain or gain. It's been so very helpful. I hope they get it back to where we can all be comfortable using it again. It seems to be a matter of formatting more than anything else, with some exceptions of course. But those have been spoken of so I won't repeat here. Thank you for the response and for helping us stay focused rather than just complaining.

Stepping Up

Thanks for taking the time to work of some improvements. My issue is, EVERYONE LIKES THE OLD ONE! There is nothing wrong with it. The complete lack of caring by the company has caused me to look into other options and there are a lot more now than when I got my fitbit. Here are a few of the companies that provide the same service: Under Armor, Nokia, Garmin, Polar Flow, Misfit, Microsoft Health, etc.... Until the change I had ZERO reason to look for something else. Why? Because I was very happy with the product. Now I am UNHAPPY and shopping the competition. If I am going to be forced to learn a new interface, i am going to see what ALL of my options are.

@Stump-grinder Many Thanks for the feed back - I too am one that prefers the old one and don't want to see it go - but, if it must move on like an old beloved car then I think this might be a reasonable compromise between what was pushed out as new and the format we all love - yes the ideal would be don't change it, it worked well and only needed minor adjustments I think I previous mentioned some things work well in a mobile environment but dont quite work on a desktop/Laptop environment the goes the other way around, I love my device but with all the outstanding issues I am still looking the only real thing that's keeping me with Fitbit is the more comprehensive sleep and heart rate information, but that wont be enough for me to stay if the many long term issues are not sorted soon,

Kind Regards
