Support Google Workspace accounts to log in to Fitbit account

Right now people like myself that use a Google Workspace (so not something [at] gmail.com) account as their main account, are locked out of Fitbit "login with Google" features - and our accounts can't be migrated.

This is highly misleading: Tip: You can not link your Fitbit account to a Google Workspace account. Use a different Google account or create a new one."

Here's what it should say:
Tip: You can not link your Fitbit account to a Google Workspace email. Use a different Gmail email address or create a new Gmail email address in addition to your existing one to use FitBit.  Note, you will now need to check multiple email accounts.”

This is not like asking you to create an Amazon account associated to ANY email address, and people are pissed off after 25 years of email, who wants to switch email addresses or keep multiple ones suddenly.

Not only that. The biggest issue here is that google assistant does not
work on Android watch 2 if the account on the phone does not match the one
on the watch. And if for any reason you switch accounts (example, you want
to see the feed of your old account) even if you change it back, you have
to set up Google assistant on your watch again. Basically anytime you need
to use it you realize it needs to be setup

Yep same here, I only went workspace because I want to keep my domain name
and email address and my families, so time to ditch fitbit and thinking
about moving my email somewhere else too

Don’t make me move account to google and block me from using my account. My google account is my domain hosted on google but you say it’s a work or school account and can’t be used. Stop being stubborn and add a use anyway button.

Hi @jmlzone. Thank you for your product feedback about supporting Google Workspace accounts to migrate your Fitbit account with us! We've found a similar request and merged yours with it. Glad the moderator consolidated similar requests. Also happy to see so many people have the same issue with the arbitrary decision by Mordoc the preventer of information technology making the dumb decision to prevent using our existing google hosted accounts. It made me start to lean towards Apple Watch. Lest see if Google can have some common sense here or just annoy and lose customers

As long as I've had my Fitbit, I used my Google Email that happens to be Workspace. I am my company's only person. If I can't use my Google email for my Fitbit that I use many times a day.

I pay monthly for my Google Workspace! And now even though it is a Google Product, it isn't good enough for Fitbit Watches.

Please keep me posted on your decision.

Welp, time to abandon Fitbit? Google is discontinuing some of their product lines and after at least 2 years, there is still ZERO compatibility between Workspace accounts and their whole health ecosystem, including their own Pixel watches 😡

It's still so frustrating that google personal accounts that use workspace are still excluded....and I have yet to hear the reason.

Agreed. I've tried everything to make the Big Switch. Nothing works. I'll
move on I guess.

That is the only solution to this problem. Move on. I have been waiting for several years now, but there is still no solution!

Customers vote with their feet: If Google does not listen to its customers, it is time to move on.

It seems like going with a Samsung or Apple watch effectively has the same issue where you're creating yet another account just to hold your health data and interact with your existing email account and calendar and whatnot.

For those who have jumped ship to a different platform, how are you integrating your new device with the accounts and features you wanted to use had Google gotten their act together?

On an iPhone you can add your Google account into mail accounts. You can disable email if you want, but it’ll sync calendars there too.

I’ve been using this with my phone for a decade. It works fine. I honestly only keep Fitbit for the scale. I wish I could recommend Fitbit for a Google for domain account.

Thank you @ChirsChirs That's helpful to know. I'll look into it.

I'm mostly wanting to see text messages, incoming calls, calendars, steps, miles, heart rate, SpO2, calories,, sleep stats, etc for general health (I'm not a runner despite what my profile says). I would also like to be able to provide medical folks historical health metrics but I guess I'll have to export my Fitbit data - not sure that will ever be useful though.

I  ultimately gave in and migrated to my old "spam" Gmail account that I use for junk. Everything seems to work fine with just my workspace account on the watch - the Fitbit app on the phone syncs with the watch no problem. Of course that means my health data lives separate, but I'm not too broken up about it. Ultimately I liked everything else about the watch, and this is the only compromise and I can live with it.

I think the primary issue here is HIPAA. There's an extra layer of privacy management they would have to add to all workspace accounts, and then I'm sure individual organizations have their own governance that they would need to verify with Google. There are so many headaches in that world, I had a healthcare client who straight up removed Google analytics from their site because legal didn't want to deal with writing an extra privacy policy.

It's a crappy workaround, but honestly I got over it in about a day.

I've used the Fitbit for years and own two.   I guess I have to throw them away because I can no longer use them with my Google account.  I own my own domain and have my email linked to that Google account which again is my domain.  It is a Google Workspace account so there for not supported.  I am not going to create a fake Google account just to use the Fitbit which I've been paying a premium subscription for.   It is absurd to not allow me to use my own Google account that I own to be used for a product that I own and pay a subscription for.   Guess I'll be doing some research to see who gets my money now.
