Support Google Workspace accounts to log in to Fitbit account

Right now people like myself that use a Google Workspace (so not something [at] gmail.com) account as their main account, are locked out of Fitbit "login with Google" features - and our accounts can't be migrated.

I have a pixel watch 2. Was using Fitbit with it logged in with a Fitbit account. Due to an unrelated issue, Google support asked me to factory reset te watch. Now I can't login to Fitbit. It asks my migrate my account which cannot be migrated. So now my watch is useless. I verified I could use Fitbit when I bought the watch. It's my main reason to get it. Now it's useless. I don't know what to do.

Worst part. The reset didn't fix the other issue

I'm not sure continuing to pile on her is going to be fruitful.  I dont think Fitbit product managers actually review these forum posts.

Google, this is ridiculous. The same garbage we had to put up with Nest Cams that still won't work in workplace accounts years later.

Please start treating your paid users with at least the same dignity and features you do the free ones.

My Fitbit charge 5 just got the flash of death, so this is no longer an issue for me. Moving on to another brand, once I decide which. I guess that's one way to eliminate a problem.

If Google's ecosystem refuses to be compatible even within itself, it's time to move on.

Absolute joke - my family all have workspace accounts and we have 5 fitbits. All of them are basically going into the trash because of this oversight/incompetenance.

Why would you ask people to create a new google account for fitbit - fitbit might be a big brand but trust me it doesn't wield that much power.

Very disappointed.

I don't even want them to make it compatible. I just want to be able to log
in with my old fitbit account. Let anyone use social login, or even force
migrate everyone who can migrate, but do not deny log in to those who
cannot migrate.

I’ve just bought a Charge 6, and it won’t even let me set up the device without getting a new Google account. If they don’t sort it, it’s going back and I’ll get an Apple Watch!

I feel like a battered wife that won't leave the abusive relationship.

Just got my Pixel 9 Pro Fold and had to wipe my Pixel Watch 2 to move it to the new phone.
The loophole where you could select Pixel Watch 1 from the join device menu is no longer functional to add the Pixel Watch 2.

Keep in mind that I've been using this exact Pixel Watch 2 with my Pixel 8 Pro for almost a year prior this this point without issue. Now the Pixel Watch Fitbit functionality has essentially been removed because... reasons.

Good thing I have that Pixel Watch 3 on order arriving next week... One of these days I'll learn that when someone shows you who they really are, believe them.

I have been happily using my legacy fitbit account with my Pixel Watch and my Pixel 7 Pro for a while.
I have purchased the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel Watch 3.
During setup of the PW3, it let me know that to setup Fitbit on the PW3 you must migrate your fitbit account to a google account.
Of course, when I tried to migrate, it tells me I cannot use my Legacy GSuite (Workspace) account for fitbit.
Add this to the list of things that can't be used with a Workspace account - this is extremely frustrating.
I'm locked into my Workspace account because so many things are tied to it (app purchases, legacy Google/Youtube music account, Google Fi account, Chat history for decades, email history, etc), with no method to migrate everything. If I was given the option to convert the account into a regular google account, I would, but without that, Google needs to give Workspace accounts the ability to do EVERYTHING that a normal Google account can do. Let the admins of the Workspace accounts dictate/choose what can/can't be used - that way those of us who own the whole Workspace account (especially those that were originally personal Google Apps accounts) can use them as regular Google accounts.
Please implement this feature request.

Either give the account the ability or if not possible, provide an
alternative way to log in.

Not me. I imagine we are just a calculated and accepted casualty. I would
be surprised that when they made the change nobody calculated how many
users would be left out without access.

Or maybe they underestimated the friction it represents for someone to use
another account. I've been using the same one for 19 years, there is no
product that will make me change my email address of all things. But I
don't know if we are representative of their workspace user base.

I'm sure that will help Workspace users that are in the Apple ecosystem, but I'm not in that boat.
We could have always dropped Fitbit/Nest/whatever for another 3rd party device, but Livin' La Vida Google was the whole point.

Has anybody found a workaround for pixel watch 3? It's not working with the old "add it as a pixel 1" method. I guess I'm going to have to send this back if I can't get it set up and hope I can still connect to my pixel watch 2.

Dyltone

The loophole/workaround for adding "Pixel Watch 1" for the Watch 2 is no longer functioning.
My Watch 3 is arriving today and I'm trading in my Watch 2... so I guess I'm just going to sell the Watch 3 NIB.

tucker973

I have a trade too, but there's no way I'm sending it in if I can't use this. So they can eat the return and cancel the trade if it comes to that.

I understand what you are saying, but you can't add the PW2 any longer, so it's just a "smart" watch now (notifications, calls, etc.) and is no longer connected to Fitbit (sleep tracking, steps, heartrate, etc.).

I had to wipe my PW2 when I got my 9 Pro Fold last week, but I wasn't able to rejoin it to Fitbit.
This whole situation has been outright frustrating and has ruined the excitement of getting a new device, especially for a $2000 one.

So I won't be able to add the 2 back? In essence this just bricked my 2?

That is correct. You can use it as a watch, but none of the Fitbit
functions will work. They are only for free Google accounts, you can't use
a Fitbit account and you cannot use a workspace Google account. There is no
work around.

I called to try to get them to buy back the watch from me but they keep
pointing fingers between Fitbit, the Google store,.Google support. Etc. To
me it was a bait and switch because I verified I could use Fitbit before
buying and they changed it after si had the watch.

I too was frustrated that as of the release of the Pixel Watch 3 I was unable to continue using a separate username & PW for the FitBit App, like it was absolutely mandatory to migrate my FitBit account to Google Auth before i could add my watch. None the less I'm in a unique position as I have both a Workspace Account and a Personal (Free) account added to the watch and as of this morning I was able to add my Watch to the Fitbit App using my gmail.com account . This is not optimal, I have to disable Device Supervision in my workspace account to rid my self of the annoying errors on the watch related to my workspace account, however by adding the second account (gmail.com) to the watch I am able to now add the device to the app. So the watch is in a "Work & Play" mode right now with the two accounts.
Google Product teams do not seem to have a strong alignment between Consumer and Workspace Feature Product Compatibility. It would be helpful if Workspace could support more granular product permissions so we may elect to allow workspace accounts to manage 'Family' , share YT-TV subscriptions, Etc.

Hope this helps for those who decide to ride out the storm in hopes for sunnier days . . .

Since i have both workspace and gmail.com account add to my phone I was able to add my new PixelFold2 to the App as well so both PW3 and phone are tracking activity. I work in tech so finding ways around poor experiences is not a foreign concept, however some sacrifices are a bit gut wrenching.

I do enjoy staying in the ecosystem but I also acknowledge Google has not made the journey comfortable at all !

@azTekFrek you've likely just started a 2nd Fitbit account and all your old data is just in the workspace account, so it's not much of a workaround if you lose all your data...

Yes. The problem with having two accounts is that when you switch account
on your phone, Google assistant will stop working on your watch

With as many emails of ours that Google probably reads, and as many conversations that they probably listen to via Nest, they should understand how PISSED off their customers are, and how stupid this restriction is. Why sell us product(s) that only make us hate your other products? Major failure in the delivery of a product or service via supply-side economics. FYI Google, products and services are supposed to SOLVE problems for consumers, not CREATE new ones. And as all of us realized, running multiple Google-based email accounts on a device makes none of the devices and software work as planned. I love my new Pixel watch3.........sad that I will be taking it back.

Willperson

Trouble is, they're not actually actively reading or listening, they have AI looking/listening for keywords and summarizing.  Despite your and our discontent, the only takewaway they probably got was how much you love your new Pixel watch3, and me re-typing probably just re-inforced that idea.
