Support Google Workspace accounts to log in to Fitbit account

Right now people like myself that use a Google Workspace (so not something [at] gmail.com) account as their main account, are locked out of Fitbit "login with Google" features - and our accounts can't be migrated.

Let's get this fixed ASAP please. I've been a Fitbit user since 2018, but I haven't seen any noticeable improvement in the app or quality of the devices in recent years. The app recently got a facelift, but it's essentially just a new design. I need to be able to use my personal workspace account with Fitbit, or it's not going to work for me anymore.

I've been using Fitbit since 2014 and was actually thrilled when Google bought you since I then I could hope to get your eco-system together with a smartwatch from Google.

With the first Pixel Watch everything worked like a charm, but now when I'm setting up Pixel Watch 2, I don't seem to be able to connect it to my Fitbit account, without first merging it with a Google Account. Not a problem, I've been using Google Workspace during the last decade or so. BUT, I can't because, for some reason, the account I'm paying for is not supported?!

This is ludicrous! I'm not sure if I should be angry at Fitbit developers or Google, someone needs to step up and fix this.

I guess we must make this public to get somewhere.

Anyone who can do this?? Tweakers.net or another news site??

We need to ensure that all reviews of new Fitbit products reflect that they
will not be supported by Google Workspace accounts and that Google does not
currently support account transitions for Workspace accounts. Add that
Google has not announced any timelines on when, or even if, transitions
for these will be enabled.

You can find everywhere that a workspace account is not supported.

People don't object to having a Google Account; instead, they object to changing their email address.  I have an Apple account, an Amazon account, and others using my primary email address.

There's no way I can explain to my mom that she needs to change the email address she's had for over a decade to use a Fitbit.

Good luck explaining to an Apple user with an @icloud.com, @me.com, or @Mac.com email address they need to change their email to @Gmail.com

Is it a surprise that people would rather return their Fitbit or Pixel Watch than deal with changing their email address?  That's ten times more difficult today than changing your phone number...

Asininely stupid.  This is an insane place for Google to place its stick in the sand . . . and because Fitbit is now Google, you both get the blame.  There are GMail accounts and there are Workspace accounts (actually two variants of Workspace accounts).  Many advanced, early adopters of Google created Google Apps accounts, which then became G Suite and more recently converted to Workspace.  I don’t have any argument with that per se but along the way Google very intentionally decided to push these users into Third Class citizens of the Google Empire.  That’s where I have an issue with Google’s, what’s called, Product Roadmap.  It’s a shame because you [Google] have very explicitly decided to treat Customers interested in using your product very differently.  Instead of building off a true baseline package of GMail services for all accounts and then offering the ability to further restrict from there in Workspace you’ve gone out of your way to create a different class of users.  Hardly fair, nor might I point out economical — It can’t possibly cost less to maintain different variants of these different ‘GMail’ systems.

Had this happen with Nest when we bought two for the house.  Became assininely difficult because the app/ecosystem kept logging me out and asking me to log back in again.  Regretted the Nest decision after not too long and, quite frankly, giving the new Charge 6, which is currently charging for the first time, that much time to decide on a return.  Sucks because this was a very thoughful birthday present — My Charge 4 broke many months ago, and it took real thinking on the gift-giver’s part to remember that.

This is needed ASAP. Note to Google: it's not just businesses that use Workspaces, many use it as their personal email and have families and other groups set up on it.

I can understand why it wouldn't be a default for businesses to be associated to individuals Fit it accounts, but this can be managed via configuration options and confirmation required by individuals when this option is triggered by an administrator.

There are ways of solving for this. It's clear that it's a needed and much requested feature.

Please listen to your customers and make this change.

Anyone else try emailing sundar @ google.com yet?

@tucker973 - If you took some time read through the thread, you would have seen that you can bypass the issue by choosing Pixel Watch (first gen) from the selection screen. This will allow you to add your Pixel Watch 2 with your Workspace account.
This is only temporary until the 2025 deadline, so rant away about that, but you have no leg to stand on for what you are complaining about.

@Dyltone I shouldn't have to read through a 5 page thread to find a workaround suggested by a user.

Strangely enough, while Fitbit users are second class citizens when it comes to Workplace emails... Google Fit works fine with a Workplace address. Discrimination?

@tucker973 - I can't disagree with your statement, but there are two reasons to use forums like this.

1. Find solutions to issues.

2. Complain in a vacuum.

I don't see any benefit to option 2 unless you are in the "misery loves company" camp.

@Dyltone Yeah, I suspect option 2 is what's going on.

So Google ditched the "Don’t Be Evil" value and offers workspace users an impossible migration path. I was asked for help by someone who purchased a new phone with the intend to keep on using Fitbit Sense 3. However, on the new phone the Fitbit app does not accept the existing workspace account with more than a decade of Fitbit data.

So instantly the Sense 3 is worthless and migrating to Garmin Venue now seems the best option. Wish this was an exeption in how google treats users, but this is just one example of a ever ongoing google inconveniences. Is this the true meaning of "Googlicious"?

I've been using Fitbit every single day since June 2014. Now I was considering upgrading to Fitbit Charge 6, however got struck that a personal Google account is needed after at least 2025. There is no support to Google Workspace, my one and only Google email. The support team are also clueless, and our voice is not being heard..

Google Bard started supporting Google Workspace emails in a few short months. Maybe because the AI race is too important to Google. On the other hand, Google Home doesn't support sharing a household for a Google Workspace email, and this has been the case for years. I feel the same fate will apply to Fitbit users. Google will just shrug it off and not care.

I'm going to end my journey with Fitbit. What are you best recommended alternatives to Fitbit Charge series?

@mchebib if you're on Android, and particularly Samsung, check out Samsung's watches. They work with Samsung Health, which works fine with a Worspace account...

Please support Google Workspace email for fitbit.  Adding a gmail account complicates my life.  I use Google Workspace to keep things central.  I will probably move to Samsung Watch if I cannot use the workspace email for the fitbit app.  Thank you.

Adding my vote and annoyance to this topic. Also can't sync my Pixel Watch 2 because of this problem and a Google account being mandatory for the process. 🤦‍:male_sign:

I'm long time Fitbit user and I don't want to change my email address just to be able to use Pixel Watch.

Earlier today I bought a Charge 6 from Amazon UK, after being a loyal customer with the 3, 4, and 5 versions, and was looking forward to the new version. I just found out that I cannot use my Google Workspace account with the Fitbit 6, while I can use the Workspace account for virtually every other Google service. I just cancelled my order.

I placed an order with Amazon UK for a new Charge 6 and cancelled the same day when I found out that I would not be able to use my Google Workspace account.  Things like that may just be the tipping point for me to migrate to a competitor.

@LizzyFitbit what is the status update on this challenge and the official Google/Fitbit position of our challenge, the community of Google Workspace?

The fact that you can't link a workspace account is so ridiculous that I'm legitimately not even frustrated or upset by it - it's just too comical. I don't really know what the solution is - use a non-Workspace email, but I've been using my workspace email for years and never had any issues with it (on Google devices or otherwise), so swapping everything over just to use a watch is..never going to happen?

Will have a bit of a look for a workaround, otherwise will just return. I should read reviews before buying - I'll cop responsibility for that.

This is so broken and embarrassing. I have a very expensive Pixel Watch 2 that's a paperweight because of this.
