Switch between Child to parent view without logging out

Right now when going back to parent mode from he child view you have to confirm your password but it then logs you out and you have to re-enter your email and password. Can the password confirmation be the only security instead of having to type in all the extra info?

For the parents that don’t give their children phones at age 8, to have the child’s information right on the parents DASHBOARD, it’s a pain to switch back and forth when you could just open the app and see your data AND your child’s data all on the same screen.

I am feeling the pain now that I have both children attached to my device and account. As their Fitbit Aces can only sync with my device, some way to quickly sync without toggling and authenticating would be fantastic. Syncing all 3 Fitbits each day is becoming a tedious chore when I should be spending the time have a health and fitness conversation with both the kids and my partner. Great benefits with family challenges but would be great if it could be simplified.

I have used some other fitness band for 2 years. I was wearing it 24/7. But after reading this article

I have stopped using it. would like to buy a fitness band with the option of airplane mode. You dont have to make to easily available option either. some decent way to do it so that we can disable it for most day and sync it every day certain time

I purchased a Fitbit for my daughter, rather than a much cheaper alternative, because the "family account" was advertised within my app and I have been pleased with my Fitbit.

Only to find out that the switching between her profile and mine is the BIGGEST PAIN EVER. It constantly kicks me out completely when I try to switch to kid view, then makes me log back in, then attempt a second time... then when I'm done I have to AGAIN enter my password. It shouldn't be this complicated. I should easily be able to toggle back and forth between her sync dashboard and my own, ESPECIALLY since she's 6 years old and isn't even ALLOWED to have her own login account, per your own policy. 

This has been a problem for over a year, per my reading on your boards, and I'm not holding my breath on a fix, as it's been "our team is working on it" for 12+ months.... that being said, if it isn't fixed soon I will not be purchasing another Fitbit and we will be finding a company who cares more about their customers with families.

Please could you inform us of when it will be possible to upload an avatar or profile pic for a child. It is crazy that this function isn't already available as surely by giving them their own fit bit you are also giving them responsibility to manage their own fitness and a profile pic would not only motivate them to do this, but also give them a sense of individuality.

I totally agree that the family side of the Fitbit app needs overhauling.  We have two Fitbit ace2 in the family, the adults don’t have any.  

The fact you need to log out of one child and into another is a pain. The adult needs a general overview from the app showing all connected fitbits.

Or have the option to allow the kids to use their own iPads to sync the data for their respective fit bits and I can see the general overview from my app.  That way if I am away for a few days, it will still sync locally and I can see the status remotely. 

I can then change globally the settings, limits of exercise etc...

My 10 year old is upset she can't add her photo as well.

We're now almost 2 years out and this is not added.  I don't think they care.  My question is

how hard is is to add CODE for this?  It's the same profile layout as the adult layout just missing a couple of things.  How hard is it to adjust the templates?  Same storage location for the adults and children?  Maybe create a new folder on the server for the children's photos?

The app is absolute trash for using it to sync to kid devices.  I'll explain why, what needs to happen to fix it, and give some suggestions, but first, a bit of background:

-I use a Garmin GPS running watch and do not use a Fitbit.  My newly created Fitbit account is solely as a parent of kids who have Fitbit devices.

-My three kids (ages 5-8) got the Ace 2 for Christmas.

-None of my kids (and this is absolutely critical) have devices such as smartphones or tablets that they can download the fitbit app and sync their watches to.  They all have Amazon Fire Kids tablets but - even if they could download the fitbit app - they don't use them enough to make that practical.

1.  The first problem is Fitbit's insistence that I sync the kid's watch to the kid's smart device (e.g., tablet).  I sort of understand this as it makes the user experience better, but Fitbit markets these watches for young children and they should have some sort of practical, useful solution the common parent use of syncing the watch to the fitbit app on the parent's smartphone (in my case, an Android running Android 10). 

2.  The experience of syncing data from the child's Ace 2 to the app is dreadful.  Here's the process:

-Open the app;

-Click on the "My Account" circle (little person) in the top left corner;

-Click on "My Family;"

-Find my child that I want to sync data from and clikc on "Switch to Kid View;"

-After it loads up, swipe down to sync the data;

-Then, click on the "My Account" circle again;

-Scroll down to the "Switch to Parent View;"

-Type in my secure (long) Fitbit password for my fitbit account;

-Click on the "My Account" circle in the top left corner again;

-Find the next child click on "Switch to Kid View;"

-Repeat.

That is arduous at best.  It's an exhausting process to simply get the data for my three kids onto the Fitbit app.

I understand that with 3 kids I will need to separately sync each Ace 2.  I'm fine with that.  I can live with that.  But, give me a break on this process.

Why make me enter Kids View to sync the data?  Why not just have a sync button by the child's name and allow me to sync it?

Why make me type in my long, secure password each time to get back to parent view?  I understand having this as an option when a kid may be using a device belonging to the parent, but in my case they are not.  Why not give me the option to not have to enter a password?  Why not get with 2019 (or soon to be 2020) and allow bio-metric password entry (e.g., fingerprint, face unlock, etc.)?  Why not let me tell the app the parent is the only user and thus not make me enter a password to switch in and out of kids view?

3.  The parent view has NO data.  My parent dashboard has nothing in it (because, see above, I don't use a Fitbit device).  But, to find out how many steps my kid got or to see how much sleep they got I have to go into Kids View (again, separately for each of my 3 kids).  Why?  Why not have a parent dashboard that tells me things like their steps, activity, and sleep?  Is it that hard to figure out that parents want this information?  If they are the type of parent buying this type of device for their child, they probably want to know this information.  Making it exceedingly difficult to get the information is not a way to endear support and make parents enthusiastic about getting these for their children.  I'm considering returning them and getting the kid's Garmin watches.  (Note: I'm aware I get weekly emails with their steps, etc. but I want that information more and I want to be able to easily access it whenever I want from the Fitbit app).

So, how do you fix this?  Either follow my suggestions above or make a dedicated "Fitbit Parent" app that overcomes some of these hurdles.

This must be changed.  I can't believe it took me a few minutes of using the app to figure this out and yet your programmers have made no improvement to the user experience to fix these problems.  Get on board, please.

I agree with BoredDad. I‘ve had multiple Fitbits over the years and really enjoyed not just the device but the app as well. However, after setting up my kids with their Ace 2’s, I’m so disappointed with the app experience. Switching between parent/child views is not intuitive. I figured it out, but I work in tech and other less tech savvy parents may find this even more challenging.

And as multiple community users have posted before, entering the password each time is annoying. How about after my initial login, from my dashboard, I swipe to view my kids stats without having to log in again? 

A 2nd login (with biometric options as original poster suggested) should only be required when making adjustments to the device settings.

Frankly, though, fitbit's silence speaks volumes to their customers about how much they value their opinions.

One issue with this request is that it is full of unnecessary fluff that makes it impossible to see what the actual request is and the title does not summarize the idea of what is needed to make things easier.

If by unnecessary fluff you mean fully describing the issue and explaining how to solve it, then I agree. If you don't like my write up, just move on. You're back and forth responses are the true unnecessary fluff in this thread. Seems like you just have an inability to read and interpret what I wrote and then some weird desire to respond with irrelevance when not necessary. 

I stand by what I wrote as the most comprehensive description of the problem coupled with logical solutions fitbit can implement. If you don't agree, I don't care. Move on bro.
