Track Cycling on Mobile App with GPS

What would be a great addition to the mobile app would be the ability to track cycling as well as the run, walk, hike options.

Does Flex track riding a stationary bicycle?

I ended up exchanging the Flex for the One which tracks most actives much better than he Flex.  As a cycling instructor, I would often find it did a terrible job of feeling movement on the bike.  The one records cycling.

Cycle tracking seems a no brainer for the smart phone apps... actually any non-step based activity.

Tracking the distance, time and elevation can all be done via the smart phone.
Especially considering the advertising that lead me to purchase my Fitbit..... Cyclebit.... not yet.

Please add cycling. My wife's tomtom multisport has a lot of great features for running and cycling. I was hoping the surge would use the gps and heart rate to dwarf what is current on the market.

I would also like a bike mode which I can track using GPS to follow the route. I can use information from my bike computer to enter the distance and speed manually when I am finished. Having a way to translate the distance into steps would be nice. I currently put the tracker on my shoe to count the "steps".

Any idea when cycling / biking will be added? Looks like its been in development for a couple months now. Really looking forward to tracking my bike rides with gps from my surge.

Please add Cycling! I have the Surge & it'll be nice to have this feature.

At the moment I cycle to work and my iPhone records this as steps. This is really annoying because it skews the number of steps that I've actually done. Hopefully the surge will not count cycling as steps.

Can't wait for the surge to come out in the UK

Count this as my vote on Cycling as the most important "missing piece" from the Surge!

When the cycling app is added please make sure it works for both road and mountain biking. Especially aggressive downhill riding.

The Surge absolutely needs GPS tracking for Cycling. It is the one missing piece that could turn this device into my all-in-one fitness tracker. Come on Fitbit. A good cycling app would take this to a whole other level!

A dedicated cycling feature will be the difference between me buying, or indeed not buying a Surge when it becomes available in the UK.

I'm a commuter cyclist and weekend rider rather than an athlete but I'm very keen to start tracking as much of my biodata as possible, on and off my bike.  As Josh mentioned above, to me the Surge is an all-in-one answer, or at least it has the potential to be.  There are plenty of specialist cycle computers on the market but many are ugly and a bit wasted on commuting.  Also, I don't just want to know that my bike got from A-B in X-mins at X-mph, I want to know what my body went through to get it there.

I too currently use Strava to track my rides but ultimately I want my phone to become the point at which my data gets visualised rather than acting as the tracker itself.

That said, Fitbit seem to be on it and there is clearly a cyclist using a Surge in the promo material so here's hoping our collective prayers are answered soon.  At the end of the day, all of the tech is there.  Let's just assume for now that they're working on a killer UI to open up the tracker market to people who don't/can't run (I have terrible shins...)

I just received my Surge, which I purchased primarily because it added GPS functionality that is capable of tracking my primary exercise - cycling. Please add cycling tracking - both road and mountain bike modes - quickly for the surge. I'm not looking to translate cycling into steps. Instead I would like Fitbit to offer cycling tracking that estimates effort/calories for the activity while tracking it with GPS mapping and other data. This function is already available on other fitness apps that use phone components, so would be great to have on the GPS-enabled Surge.

Please add cycling as an exercise option. The reason I wanted to get the surge is using the GPS and heart rate to better calc steps, calories etc.

Please add Outdoor cycling as an option ASAP.  I ordered my Surge the day it came out, and will be returning it if this option isn't available prior to the expiration of the 45-day return policy.  Please!!!!

I'm just looking to track HR, distance, and GPS, which the "run" option already does.  Just duplicate that, with the name changed and the "steps taken" turned off, and you're good to go!

And yes, I understand that I *could* use the "run" option, but then my overall "run" data would be completely screwed up, and possibly my "steps taken".

I'd love to be able to track cycling with the iOS app GPS!

Also treadmill! I live in Minnesota and it's frequently nasty outside. I need to record indoor activities like treadmill without the GPS contantly running and sucking my Android battery dry for nothing. Because I am on a treadmill, and this would apply to bicycling, I need to be able to edit the activity afterwards to enter mileage.

I recorded my treadmill exercise as running on my Android. I have the Charge HR. For 20 minutes and 10 seconds on the treadmill, I got credit for 0.1 miles and 22 calories with an average heart rate of 123 and max of 147... Ridiculous and I can't edit it on my android or the dashboard.

Back to Endomondo and my Polar H7 heart rate monitor. It does it all, tracks heart rate, calories, and I can enter the mileage when I'm done and then it syncs to Fitbit. I sure hope I can just use Fitbit someday. But, it is far behind on being able to track and edit indoor activities like I can with Endomondo.

When seeing the app up to track a GPS based activity, there are currently 3 options: Run, Walk, Hike. Add Cycling to the list so that we can report on these activities separately.

Thanks!

I agree the Basis bands have an automatic mode that switches to cycling when riding.  The surge should have this option because it is more expensive that the peak!

I would love for my Surge to be able to track GPS + HR on a ride.

I am by no means a cyclist but we do ride bikes as a form of training for our hiking/climbing trips.  I had just assumed thatwith the GPS and heart rate functionality the Surge would be great for getting insight into how far and we ride and how much of a workout we are really getting.  Seems like a simple math problem - hopefully it is added soon.  Especially since your commercials show "BikeFit" and then you find out $250 later - not so much.

I have a surge and it is disapointing that I can't record cycling with it. I put it in walk mode today when I was riding with my 9 yr old daughter and then had to delete that and manually add as bike. This seemed to not track calories burnt correctly as I received very different numbers from online calculators and the mapmyride app on my android. I really want to see my surge and the fitbit app track bike rides as they will vary in speed and distance wether I am alone or riding with daughter. I would expect not to have to different apps telling me very different numbers. I like the surge and the fitbit android app but I want all tracking in one device and app. I am going to continue to keep an eye out for this update and I hope that it arrives before the weather gets better and my daughter wants to ride to the parks more often or I might have to change to a better solution for my needs.

In tracking (GPS) only have Run walk hike.

Can you add biking. It keeps track of steps real good.

I put attached FitBit to my sneaker.

It does not sync real well with Challenges

Yesterday 1-19-20 I had 22, 164 steps in my challenge only had 12, 730. Missed just under 1/2 my steps

also in day chalenges which is by goal show I was at 87% which I was over by 9,000 steps

Thank you

Love My FitBit I'm sure you can fixthe synching Problem
