I have been using my Charge HR for my running and HIIT for almost a year and loving it. Now incorperating some biking and I too wish that FitBit would upgrade the Android app to allow for biking. Personally (excuse my ignorance), but I don't understand how it makes a difference if you are using the charge HR or Surge - surely its the app that makes a difference? I understand the GPS on the Surge, but i have GPS on my phone / app? Is it not the app needs updating? I will continue to use Strave like you Ramesh.
I also agree with the previous comment. I want to log my activity as cycling. Not walking, running or hiking.
I have to have 2 entries in the log whenever I go cycling; one tracked as running to log the GPS and then one manual entry as cycling for the same period of time.
Please give me the option to track my exercise as "Cycling". There's enough of us asking for this feature.
I love being able to map and track the hikes my husband and I do on the weekends.
We both wear the flex bands.
Would it be possible to add biking also? Right now I use the run field to track bike rides but it would be nice to have each activity labled correctly. Even if there was a way to edit the titles of the activity would be ok.
It really is a great app and with the ability to have voice prompts and music is really nice.
I concur, this should be added to Fitbit app. Models for calories calculation depending on heartrate, distance and superelevation can be added later if desired, but tracking GPS route during workout should deffinitely be possible. Please add this ASAP
It would be nice if Fitbit developed their own cycling speed and cadence sensors so that I don't have to go through third parties and hope that everything transfers correctly later on. Also I think a GPS navigation with distance cycled addition to the Fitbit app would be cool.
For cycling and elliptical I just tuck the Fitbit surge in my sock or on an old cell phone case with clip and pouch which attaches to my sock. Registers fine for both pieces of exercise equipment.
Track exercise - cycling has NOT been implemented. The status is incorrect.
You can LOG cycling, not TRACK it.
You can only TRACK Run, Walk, or Hike.
You can LOG an exercise type from a very large list of pre-set activities.
TRACK plots your path on the GPS feature.
It seems crazy that LOG is so flexible, yet TRACK is so restricted. Surely it's only a few lines in code to giv the TRACK function access to the same activity list in the LOG function? Or even better, as one person already suggested, just make the activity a free text field.
I'm dory to be the one to break it to you. The charge HR will NEVER have full cycling capability on its own. It does not have a built in GPS. that was why I purchased a Surge months before the cycling upgrade. So you have 2 choices: buy s Surge or use your phone and the app for the GPS. The iWatch also does not have built in GPS. Hence, my Surge.
Bill, I think the problem is that TRACKING an activity as a Bike activity with the Charge HR is not possible, even if you have your phone with you to use the app. All this thread is asking for is a way to track a bike like we can a walk, run or hike. Russk has it spot on, similar to my post earlier. Shame we're being ignored at present!
Bill .. maybe it wasn't obvious .. I wasn't (we're not) asking for the HR to "track" our rides .. because honestly .. IT on it's own doesn't track our walks/runs either .. you can do a "workout" with it but it doesn't track that way .. just measures steps/HR/distanbe etc, unless you start the App and goto "Track my Exrecise" and do it that way, then you get a track/map too .. we are asking that in the App we can choose "Cycling" as an option .. it's the phone that has GPS and we track rides fine with other apps .. using Fitbit (App) with our Charge HR means we also get our HR recorded for the ride as well as the track map 🙂
I paddleboard several times a week and use the RUN function to do GPS tracking. Just like biking, there should be a PADDLEBOARD activity with GPS tracking. Alternatively, a "WORKOUT" activity with GPS tracking so that you can create your on GPS Tracking Activity.
Dazzza has nailed it exactly, I have the same gripe. I can Track (using GPS on my phone, show map of run/walk/hike) of run/walk/hike and get detailed GPS info from this option. What we on this Forum want to see is to add Cycling to the drop down list. The Fitbit doesn't need to do the tracking, allow the phone to track with GPS while I'm cycling. I run with my phone and bluetooth headphones, so I already use all three devices at the same time. Now I'd like to do the same while riding.
