Correct davedawgs, I don't need steps or stairs in my cycling program. the Spinning activity doesn't have GPS enabled on it thought, only HR. We just need one created that is Cycling specific.
Getting Cycling cannot be difficult or take much longer. We need a way to stop step count and stairs! Without it, I'm leaving Fitbit Surge at home while cycling. Too many false stuff that cannot be corrected.
I can't buy the Surge until I know cycling is covered. I don't mind activatin a cycling option. It beats having to use my expensive smart phone with Endomondo to track my mountian biking route. Afterall if I crash it is cheaper to replace the Surge than my phone...
As we're not getting any feedback from Fitbit despite the impressive popularity of the forum, could everybody twitt the request to the support team @FitbitSupport.
Hopefully we will get an answer through the support if they're receiving a lot of request by twitter.
My original Twitter post was answered redirecting me to here... Said that they love cycling too and I should comment here with my request... Not sure they love cycling that much.
I agree fully. I have a Fitbit Charge HR which I would much like to use as a heart monitor while using the iBiker app for cycling. Why can't Fitbit and iBiker (Digifit) partner?
Long bike ride on Sunday, charge HR thinks I climbed 155 floors... Might be accurate, who knows, but 155 floors is very different on a bike vs by foot! No way to delete this record without deleting the exercise? Just add a cycling section already! Also Google Fit can distinguish between walking and cycling very well... Get on it Fitbit!
Yes, cycle tracking an absolute must. Over time 'cycle distance' and 'climb' should be separate parameters in a configurable dashboard please. Lead the market!
What REALLY is a must, is to be able to avoid double registrations on the Fitbit apps. At the moment the app lack any pause / off - function so if I have the app installed on the same phone I use when exersizing, the Fitbit app register Strava / Endomonto workout data as steps.
Cycling is a obvious and sad part of it, but the app register all other non-step workouts as walking/runnung as well. Jumping ropes as warmup to rowing, or squats as warmup to cycling uphill: They all are measured as walking/running once the app is installed and the phone is in the pocket.
VERY exciting that you're working on a cycling app for the Surge! This would go a long way to having my Surge replace my Garmin Fenix2. While I love the Fenix2 also, it does not do the all-day tracking I'd like. Go Fitbit, go!
Fit bit is great at tracking exercise ffrom walking, hiking, and running. When I go cycling, I have to track that exercise using other apps. the Fit Bit app should include a way to enter other types of exercise through the Track Exercise option on the app. this would be a grreat improvement and make the experience more universal.

..but the Fitbit app itself log everything you do as walking or running so the Fitbit app creates false results..
At the moment, the only option to ensure that your exersizes only get registered once is to uninstall the Fitbit app, log your exersizes by other devices and import the data into the Fitbit system. Its increadible, I did not believe it before I tested it but it´s true.
Verified in Android 4.3 and 5.01, on Sony Xperia and HTC M8.
Have had my surge for about 5 days and really enjoy it. Hoping there will be an accurate cycling excercise selection soon that will not record steps or floors climbed. Don't make me switch to the new Garmin VivoActive! It has this built-in, I am willing to wear an HR band if that is what it takes! Fitbit, love where you are taking this new product, adding this feature would make it a keeper for me.
How very disappointing to see the lack of progress on this. I was about to buy a Surge but the choice is now between the Microsoft Band and the Garmin Vivoactive. At least I know before buying.
I'm sorry to say that I totally agree with you here! Stay away. Even though the initial product was quite good, Fitbit is getting it completely wrong. It's not just about launching new product. It's about taking care of its customers and at the very least communicate. This is the most basic and simple management rule! I Not only they won't have my money next time but more importantly they will discover the power of reputation. Fitbit, wake-up!!
The trouble is, Stephan, that there is not one single wearable that has gps, is compatible with windows phone, has a cycle function and syncs with Endomondo. Is that really such a weird combination? I could abandon my soul to Google, stay with Android and get the Garmin Vivoactive but I am beginning to think that maybe the cycle function is the less important. I really am not interested in Fitbit's life management web thing and if a "run" will automatically upload to Endomondo I can just change it to a ride as long as all the gps data is there.
Wrist no wrist. Please add cycling as a supported activity. When I have my phone with your app while cycling, you know my position, elevation, speed, my age, height, weight, sex. With my FitBit even my hear rate. Even the weather conditions for that day. So I think it should be possible to calculate several things from that.
I would also love to see bike added as a tracked gps activity for my Android app. It should not be for Surge only as suggested here, but also for Flex (as I use) and any product.
Right now I use another exercise app (Sports tracker) to track my biking, then use the results to record it as activity in my Fitbit app with time started, duration and distance after I'm finished.
My issue is with the Digifit app for cycling called iBiker which the fitbit Charge HR does not record cycling as a workout. I've contacted fitbit and iBiker with no luck so far.
