I have Just bought a charge HR and I am shocked at the lack of cycling support in the APP this should be added imediately. It is a very simple addition that would not take much resource too add. Reading this thread and the responses of your fitbit team has completely depleted my faith in this ecosystem, the fact that you can go years ignoring such a simple developement request baffles me.
I Really hate it when greed consumes a coorporation which is clearly the case here, the fact the surge and the blaze both incorporate this feature frustrates me as an owner of a Charge HR. It is not like I am using out of date technology I am using a device that you are still selling as an everyday wearable tracker. The massive number of commmenters and upvoters should show you that this is a needed change and on that would be masively appreciated by many users.
Please listen to this board and make this simple change.
Indeed, the new blaze has this support without even having GPS! If we start a workout on the app, incorporate it all together and give the option for cycling!!!!!!!!!
I will be looking at getting a new tracker soon and the way this is being handled is making me look at other options. WTF, when's the last time the app was meaningfully updated? The "sleep" update is not a meaningful update.
The key is cycling is added is any steps earned have to not be counted because it is not a step based activity. Basically, the same functionality as the blaze is what we need.
I'm guessing they won't do that on the software side because they want us to buy the blaze instead. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
I don't understand how these devices work, but I thought if you pressed the button on the device to start an activity and then again when finished, that the steps during that time are not counted.
Adding another voice for including cycling in the app. Currently I'm using both Argos and Fitbit to trrack my exercise and calories, but one should be enough.
Even though this is the official feature request portal, I'd also recommend emailing support as well. A forum thread can be ignored, but each support email must at least be read.
I 100% agree with this. Being able to utilize the tracking & GPS feature while bicycling would automatically record the duration and distance for the activity. These could then be used by the app to estimate calories burned, which it already does when you log these measurements manually. I have the Fitbit Charge, which doesn't record heart rate, but I would think a tracker with that feature would also be able to use the heart rate data during the recorded activity to more accurately estimate the calories burned. Please work this into an app update!
I have the Alta which fails to smart track my bike commute. Can you add "biking" as one of the options to track via the app so bikers at least don't have to go in and manually log all rides? I'm seriously regretting my purchase right now because the tracker/app are not at all accurately logging my activity.
The second time I called with the same issue they sent out a new Alta I should receive it today. It will not start tracking until after you're riding for 10 tens mins and if you stop for water etc ... it stops tracking. I pray the new one works because Ive been entering it manually!!
They are sending me out a replacment I hope that one works because I have been entering it manually. It will not start tracking until you've been riding for 10 minutes ... then if I stop to have water etc ... it stops tracking. It is much better made than the previous fitbits I believe it will hold out wear and tear wise much better ... and it is good looking ... you can also change bands I have a leather one for mine !!
I really like the pink blush band and the size. Do you know if they release updates with new features that you can apply after purchasing? I want to track my steps I hike and walk/run too but cycling is my thing. I also wish it could track weight training but since it doesn't track HR I guess there's no hope for that.
Oh I didnt see the pink blush ... i pre-ordered !! I don't know how the updates are done unless they do them automatically thru the app on our phones. I do the vibration machine and they dont pick that up either !! As people are making suggestions that do attempt to do the best they can ... with all our different requests / wants !!!
There are many people with me who wants you to add "biking" to the gps tracking. And not only have the options run / walk / hike. I also want the steps from biking to be counted so it's worth the effort when we for example have step challenges at work or with friends. PLEASE fix it immediately!!! The biking season is in full swing!
Unreal. How hard would it be to add cycling to the run, walk, hike option menu? Really? Everything's all setup for it already. Will the gps know, and not like the difference between running and cycling? Is cycling too fast for the Fitbit gps satellites or what? (Haha) This stalling of what customers request and want, something that would obviously be so easy to implement, well, is really kinda strange. 😕 WHY FITBIT?
Here's where I get a "did you try restarting your tracker?" Reply. Hahaha 🙂
It's been over a year and while we can add in biking manually to our exercise logs it would be great if we can get the same information we get when we run, walk, or hike on the app when we bike. I would like to see routes and times so I know how fast I'm going when I do bike. I don't have a bike computer and I don't have a GPS based bike app either. I know the Alta is supposed to automatically track when I do ride but I haven't actually ridden with it on yet as I'm only on my third day of ownership. When you have 22 pages of comments from people for over a year asking you for this one simple request and you've been able to come out with two new trackers this year it's time to get on board and start working on adding that capabilty to the app. If it's a matter of some trackers not being able to properly tell the difference between walking and riding then come out and tell us and work on allowing apps for biking the ability to integrate with the Fitbit app like some of the general fitness apps do or if some already do come out and tell us which ones so we know what to get. We need these options or explinations because we need to know why we don't have this by now even though @SunsetRunner said he would pass along the idea for review and it was also looked at by @DerrickS last September.
