Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

With the sugar revelation, I would love to be able to track sugars as well. The Fitbit desktop app does a great job, but we need more food counts so users can track items specific to their needs. At least give us an option to customize. Please don't make us use myfitnesspal when it could all be right here! 😞

I came on here to see if this had been requested, I was happy to see it had, but a little disappointed that it was nearly 3 years ago!!! I would like to set it like the weight tracking where you can swipe to see more info. It seems like it should be a simple change since the information is already captured on the desktop version.

i am doing keto, second week in and into ketosis, loving it so far, is there a keto group please?

Wow, about 2.5 years ago this was requested and its still not a feature. Very disappointed in Fitbit.

This is a pretty basic thing for anyone trying to get in or stay in shape and other, free apps, do provide this breakdown.

I sure hope Fitbit takes heed soon on this request.

I'd love to see a carb counter. As a diabetic I count my carbs and calories so being able to track my carbs on my Fitbit would be so helpful for my health. I hope this is taken under consideration. Thank you.

I would also be interested in a keto group, l love it too! We do need to be able to count net carbs, fiber, sugar alcohol and sugar.

Very disappointed that the request for macro tracking facility has not been actioned. Surely there is enough support judging by this thread?

I do Keto as well. I just paid for the Premium on Fitbit thinking it would give me more options for tracking carbs and net carbs but it does not. The free version of My Fitness Pal is much easier at tracking carbs/net carbs (Fiber).

I'm disappointed in the lack of customazation with the Fitbit especially if I'm paying extra. At this point I'll probably have to continue using the free version of My Fitness Pal to track my food and Fitbit for everything else. I was hoping for only one login and one website. I hope Fitbit catches up soon.

Carb counter please. I have T2 diabetes and I do check in on the laptop to see the carb total, but having it on the app would be of an immense help in my life.

I am diabetic (type 1 - insulin treated) and need to know how many grams of carbohydrate I am eating at each meal. It has to be very accurate (within a few grams) so I can take the right amount of insulin. It would be incredibly helpful for me if the app would track my carbs for each meal based on the food I'm inputting and show it on the food screen along with the calories.

The nutritional info screen currently shows info for any food in the database but it doesnt say what portion size the data refers to!!! This makes the data not only useless, but also potentially dangerous for a diabetic who might be fooled into taking the wrong amount of insulin. I would like the nutritional info to automatically change to reflect the portion size entered by the user. If this is not possible (unlikely i think since it is just basic maths), the nutritional info screen should at least make it very clear what portion size the info refers to (e.g. "This data is for 100g of product"). For things like pasta and rice it should also make it clear whether that is the weight before or after cooking as the weight changes drastically on cooking.

These changes would make a huge difference to my life (and the lives of anyone else with diabetes) in terms of convenience but also in terms of my ability to control my blood sugar which has a major effect on my short term and long term health.

Please add Atkins carb tracker to sync with Fitbit. App works like weight watchers app or my fitness pal. Thanks

100% think that the "Daily Totals" bar needs to be a prominent feature on the app.
It should be customisable based on the macros individuals are tracking.

I am tracking Fat, Protein and Carbs as I am on a Ketosis focused diet.
At present I have to switch between the Fitbit App and the web page (both on my Phone), so that I can see my Macro's. I need to stay under 30g of carbs, but there's no easy way to see this specifically in the Fitbit App.

For now I can still track it, but it's unnecessary added faff.

I do 99% of the tracking and food entry on the app, but I have to dive off it onto the webpage for that 1 bit of info.

I wish that the iPhone app would also display the macronutrient ratios (% carb, % protein, % fat) rather than having to log onto the computer dashboard to see this info - I measure things based on macronutrients (as do a lot of people following programs such as IIFYM, etc) and it's such a pain to not be able to have this info unless I'm in front of a computer. It seems so simple to add into the app. Would like to see % available not only for each meal, but for the entire day as well.

I think that a lot of people would benefit from this. For example, I had a sleeve gastrectomy done and the fitbit has been a great motivational tool for me. However, I notice that it only shows calories. I think that fitbit should add different focus areas. For me, protein is my focus and i'd love to track that with the app. For others, it may be carbs or something else. Create a drop down menu (cal, carbs, protein, etc)!

Thank you!

If Fitbit won't do it, the My Plate app is good for monitoring all those things.

FYI... a lot of what you describe is already available online, though I agree it could be good to have more of that in the app:

https://www.fitbit.com/foods/log

Premium goes a step further and allows you to track daily/weekly averages of all of the above.

It has been a year since this request - is there anyway of knowing if this feature is going to be added into fitbit soon?  I need something to track protein asap.  Thanks

This was the first thing I noticed it lacked, very surprised. You can check the nutrition breakdown of each food, but not collected as a whole which would be ideal, hopefully in a future update.

I've been monitoring this for a while and see Fitbit has not addressed adding the Macros (Fat, Carbs, Proteins) to the Android App.  As it is, you have to go to your dashboard on computer to get your daily Macros.  This feature or addition to the App would be beneficial for those of us who need those totals for our fitness goals daily!

Hope we hear something is in the works soon!

The last notification I received on this is that it was reviewed by a moderator, but I do understand app developments can take time. Hopefully, with many still voting and commenting on this regularly, it will soon be pushed to the "under consideration" category. I've been using MFP to log all my foods and track my macros, but I'd still rather be able to do it in the FitBit app and have everything in one place.

If the development team comes through here, this is just a friendly bump and reminder we'd all jump for joy if you set this in motion :).

Sincerely, someone who will never hit dem protein gainz if she doesn't track her macros. Womp.

This is a feature request for the Foods Log page (www.fitbit.com/foods/log), which currently tracks daily totals of fat, carbs, protein, etc., in grams.

I would love to see an additional calculation of the % of total calories each of those tallies represents. I frequently see articles and books that cite dietary guidelines along those lines (e.g. "A person of such-and-such gender and such-and-such age should get 45-60% of calories from carbs, 35% from fat,... " and so on).

It is not a burden to do the calculation on one's own, but adding those figures automatically would streamline the process....

YES! I want a display on my mobile app like the one in the OP of this thread!

Additionally, I'd like to customize what is visible:

Total calories in, protein, fat, carbohydrates, and water.

Others might want to see more/less. So, let me "check a box" as it were, in order to choose what to display.

So maybe if enough people want this, Fitbit will add it !!!

Problem is, there are 10 pages and a few years of people wanting this, but FitBit still hasn't done anything about it.

it would be helpfull to your DIABETIC USERS to be able to track CARBS,!,! , to DIABETCS and PRE diabetics, CARB COUNTING IS MORE Important than counting Calories, but when counting carbs, calories are lower, but is not true not visa versa.
My suggestion is either to be ABLE TO ADD or customize A FIELD OR LINE to what you want to track, of which CARBS COULD BE A choice,
