Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

One of the critical nutritional components to track today is grams of sugar in each food logged.  This is a key component of weight loss.  The app tracks a number of components including fat, protein, fiber, sodium, etc., cut leaves out sugar.  Sugar is listed in the detailed nutritional labels for each food but should be listed when the food is logged and accumulated in the daily food plan summary

We have mowing the lawn as a type of exercise but those of us in the north know that we get more exercise shoveling snow. Can we get that listed please.

And I don't do any mowing during winter but plenty of shoveling.

This sums up perfectly why we need this info available on the app. Please make this a priority release if possible

All we are asking is to have SUGAR added to the totals listed for each day.

I would like the amounts to show in the Food Log and on the Dashboard.

Tracking Sugar intake (grams per day) is a HUGE factor in many pre-diabetics' and diabetics' life.

This really should be an easy fix for Fit-Bit.

I use the Fit Bit application ONLY on my computer and can't believe this is something that hasn't been included from the very beginning.

Having to create one's own spreadsheet to track the Sugar separately and/or use a different application is unacceptable for those of us who purchased the Fit-Bit product to help us keep track of activities and diet for our health and well-being.

PLEASE -- let us know how soon we can expect this to be upgraded.

Thank you.

Hi Fitbit, just thought you should know, that since you have gotten 1000s
if requests over the past few years to include micronutrient tracking on
the mobile app & have decided that you don't care about what your customers
want & have refused to listen to them, I am leaving your company. It's
pointless for me to wear the old Fitbit that I have so I'm giving it away,
& I was going to buy the new model, but since there really haven't been any
improvements except in the cosmetic area, that would be a waste of money
too. My phone has a micronutrient tracker on it, & it works well (I've
been using that AND Myfitnesspal for years because MFP will NOT sync with
your product & if I want to know what I'm eating I have to use my phone;
cutting out the middleman- YOU). So Fitbit, its been a mediocre experience,
I gave you a 2 year chance, and I think we should break off this
relationship because its just not going anywhere.

To danis31660,

I feel the same way! I've only had it since Christmas (I got it as a gift) and I'm already fed up! This thing is useless and they apparently never add anything important to it from what I'm gathering. $150 for a kinda cool looking watch/pedometer. I have much nicer watches I'd rather be wearing actually.. They need to step up their game if they expect anyone who is actually serious about their health/fitness to use this thing. -.-

So what's the status on implementing macro tracking?

Fitbit definitely needs to get this. Before I got my fitbit I had been using MyFitnessPal, it tracked everything and displayed it all simply: protein, carbs, fat, vitamins, minerals, etc. It is stupid to have to log all my food in MyFitnessPal and also use fitbit, but I am thinking of doing so and then just manually transferring my total calories to my fitbit app at the end of the day. Very inconvenient, and very unnecessary. Please at least get to the quality of free apps, fitbit.

I agree that this is needed. I had a Jawbone tracker and it was on their app. Also a traffic light system on this would be helpful like you currently have on daily calories (under, on or over target)

The app doesn't allow me to view my macronutrient ratios, which forces me to use the Myfitnesspal app for to sync, rather than entering my food directly into the fitbit app.

I can't wrap my head around the fact that the macro information is available on the website dashboard but not in the app dashboard. As a software designer & strength athlete this absolutely boggles my mind. Please listen to the community and implement a simple macro breakdown in the app, just like on the website. I don't even need a detailled option to TRACK macros, I just need an OVERVIEW of my daily intake on Protein / Carbs / Fats, that's all.

The Online Site shows protein totals but the moble apps do not.  It would be great if we had some options as to the tiles we could set up on the dashboard as well as the mobile dashboards.

Please allow it to show

Sugar

Sodium

Protein

Carbs

Fat

All of this is tracked and the data is all there in the applications why not allow this to be tracked based on the individuals needs.  I need to track daily protein intake, others need to track sodium etc.

We need a carb tracker that way I don't have to have a bunch of other apps to track each thing.

I hope that this feature would become a part of the app since it would be much more convenient.

I don't carry around my laptop everywhere I go so I count calories on my phone, Fitbit app at the moment, but it's just too much of a hassle to go to my phones web browser and literally try to find the macros because the site doesn't scale well on mobile devices (it's just smaller version of the actual site on laptop).

I don't want to be using million different fitness apps anymore. MFP is nice and I love the details it gives me but I'm just not keen on switching between apps anymore. I know I can link them but I just wish that Fitbit would make some improvements within the app.

I don't think that it is too much of an ducplicate since it also suggests macros to be part of the Blazes screens. I was about to make a new topic for it but I'm just going to upvote this.

Yes!! I agree! The app should include a macro tracker that includes a pie chart and the percentage ratio of fats, proteins, and carbs like my fitness pal app does.
