Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

Totally agree about the need to amend macros. I want to set my carbs, protein & daily fats intake. Shocked it's not already available.

I currently use the my fitness pal to track my food because their database is so much better.

I don't want to have to use two apps.  That is annoying and takes up space on my phone.

I want a super inclusive database of all foods available, and when I scan something that I ate, I want fitbit to track all areas of the nutrition.  I also want to create my own recipes like I can in myfitnesspal.  Save recipes and use later.  Please do this or partner with them to get it all in one place.

It has been 2 years and fitbit has yet to implement macros tracking in the app. Not good, for a 149€ app (you basically pay for the fitbit wearable and the app :D). As a bodybuilder I REALLY need this feature in the app. How long could it take to code it in?

For me not only carbs and fat are important. I would like to see vitamins and minerals as well. So Fitbit have to add more information to foods database like vitamin A, B6, B12, C... zinc, magnesium, iron, copper and so on and give us a way to see what we have every day!

I'd really like to see this as well. I'd rather not have to sync two apps together. I'd like a breakdown of at least g/MG of protein, carbs, and fat. It would be even better if the types of each where broken down further as well as vitamins, etc.

I'd like to add my voice to the community members interested in seeing the macronutrient tracking on the actual app. That's where I enter most of my food data, so it would be convenient to have it visible all in one place. I check my phone to see my progress toward my goals throughout the day. I never go to the desktop dashboard!

My current workaround is using MyFitnessPal premium to track and adjust macros more accurately, and have it linked to FitBit. Even if it becomes a premium offering, I'd rather give my money to you than MFP, due to the Under Armour CEO's support of the current regime.

Can you give us an update on the timing, if any? Thanks.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see the macronutrients break down in the app! I know there are other apps out there buts its a pain to input all the information for foods again that I have entered in my fitbit app. Im also a person that likes to go to One place to input my information instead of multiple places. Plus I really love the fitbit app over all the others they just arent the same!!

I'd love to be able to customize the nutrition portion of the site or app in order to be able to set/track custom macro goals. It's be much more streamlined to track everything on one site instead of having to track my food somewhere else and link them together. Also, the food description data from MFP doesn't sync as it was entered, just the totals per meal.

Yes! I would want it to be on the apps, not just the dashboard because I rarely have my computer with me and I don't like having to navigate through the website to find my macros on my phone. I would love to quickly check how much protein I've eaten throughout the day so that I can make even better food choices.

I did the search some guy start a request for sugar over a year ago now and has 80 votes including mine and I still do not see sugar or carbs on total daily food intake.

Sugar should be one on the daily intake data because it is very very important. If we cannot see how much sugar we intake at the daily total, the site is pretty much useless to me and takes how important counting sugar is to me. On top, the totals should be updated as we apply data this would allow us to watch our intake and adjust food accordingly. It is a simple feature that is very important and it because it is not there I use a different food logging site

Definitely agree! Hope they'll do it soon because it's annoying to not have this in the app since counting macros is a key feature for many people.

Needs improvement on logging calories! Being able to see a Nutrient summary breakdown of carbs, fats , and protein in grams would be great. Knowing what you eat is a huge part of losing weight and starting a healthy lifestyle. S Health is a great example of what fitbit needs!! This is a must for Fitbit to continue being a competitor in the fitness tracker industry.

I agree... being able to see the daily totals on the app is something we need since most of us use our phones. Also, adding total sugars would be helpful as well since so many people need to track those for weight loss and health issues.

I am taking the Fitbit features seriously and am starting to really see some positive results and I couldn't be happier about that. Although now that I'm getting more serious about my health all thanks to Fitbit this has led me to tracking my food intake more in depth. You've brought me this far Fitbit and I appreciate it so much, now help me and others get further down the road towards our goals and please include tracking for fat, protein and carbs. You would then become the ultimate one stop shop for fitness. Thank you!

Hi! Does anyone know if there have been any updates on that? I used to use the MFP and sync, but it seems with the new dashboard that's also stopped being accurate.  I'd love to be able to have everything centralized to one app.

I would like to be able to count carbs and calories on iPhone application.

I want to be able to set a goal for the day and be able to track it.

I am pre-diabetic. that is very important for me to keep track.  i would like to have one application to count carbs and calories and not several

I agree, we need micronutrients available on the mobile app. Any update on this request. I know we can sync My Fitness Pal, but why should we have to use multiple apps.

Cgishnock

I agree. I would like to see his feature in the app. I predominantly use the app and barely log into the browser Fitbit dashboard. I had been using MyFitnessPal because it breaks down the nutrients In its app (this was before I found out Fitbit now does it too). If Fitbit would show nutrient breakdown in the app, I'd delete MyFitnessPal. I like having one app where o can go to for everything and i hate linking to MyFitnessPal because I get two different results. MyFitnessPal doesn't take my steps into account half the time and I have to unlink and relink it. It's annoyin and I like Fitbit better.

Pleeeeasssee give us the option of viewing the nutrient breakdown in the app!!!!

Please, could we add the ability to see how much protein, sugar, carbs etc are being consumed per day in addition to the calorie tracking. I know the website has it, would be great if the app did too.

So I work as an iOS Developer. Yesterday I decided to hack macro nutrients into the Fitbit app by myself because I am waiting for years for Fitbit to show this information not only on the web but also in their app. I spent about ~1-2 hours to solve this for my personal use. For all the tech guys out here I used a method called dynamic library injection in order to add this information to the app despite the fact that I don't have access to the source code of the Fitbit app. I will improve my current solution but for now I made a quick hack for myself which shows the information in an alert(popup) when going into a detail food log for a specific day. I attached my current result in this comment. I will improve my current solution so the information is shown in the view along the other information instead of showing the macro nutrients in an alert(popup).

I feel like this should have been solved a long time ago. When i reverse engineered the fitbit app I discovered that the app already has the information about total proteins/carbs/fats for a specific day. Fitbit just does not show these information in the app. This should be a quick fix for the developers and I do not understand what takes them so long.

Just my 2 cents. Would love to see something similar integrated in the original/officially supported Fitbit app. Until then I will continue to modify the app to fit my personal needs since I won't accept paying for a fitness device which does not fit my daily use cases.

Cheers,

David

I've made a request under the "feature suggestions" labeled " Add a Food Guide Page". I think this would be very useful & helpful for people concerned with food & nutrition.  Check it out if you're interested. Thanks.

Please please add in a macros feature to the app, it is just as important as calorie logging! I use the app for logging my food and it would be great to be able to see the macros there and then instead of having to login to the online dashboard or another app. Come on Fitbit, there are two years worth of requests for this, listen to your customers!
