Turn off quick view when I'm sleeping (or at customizable times) aka 'Night Mode'

I love the quick view feature however when I'm sleeping I tend to wave my arms around which activates the display which sometimes wakes me up, especially if my wrist is close to my face.

My fitbit knows when I'm sleeping as it tracks my sleep so how about having the capability to disable quick view automatically whilst I'm sleeping, in fact don't even have it as a selectable option just don't trigger quick view when my fitbit knows I'm sleeping.

Well said ! I have a lot of friends who have shown an interest in my Fitbit but are not impressed with their attitude towards this problem. So they will be buying elsewhere.

Hi Fitbit,

I am quite new to the Fitbit community. I purchased 2 Charge HR's in November 2017 and have been using them for some time. In general, they are great. The only downside is that at night, no matter which settings I do, the screen either comes on if I accidentally double tap the device, or sometimes I even found that the device thinks I am waking it up and the screen comes on. Main issue: I have sleeping problems, and this device with the super bright display just ruins part of my sleep. I normally sleep around 5 hours a day on average due to work, but the screen coming on at night doesn't help to keep me sleeping. Please either introduce a dimming function or simply turn off all screen activities that could occur if the button is not pressed on demand. Perhaps we can wake the screen up at night on button press.

Please please fix this issue. It is not a bug, just a very kind improvement that I think many would appreciate. I know many suggestions are coming up. I assume this is not difficult to fix. I would really like to stay in Fitbit, but otherwise, I will have to find alternative solutions/devices, sorry to say. Come on!!! you can do it.

Thanks.

Best regards.

Great post this endorses all I have been saying and mirrors my experience/problem with Charge 2.

Hi Fitbit,

I just would like a hint if this feature will be available for the Charge 2. As I have read already a few times, people are complaining that the screen turns on at night, and being factual about myself, indeed, it ruins your sleep when the screen shines in your eyes in the middle of the night.

I have brand new 2 Charge 2's (from NOV-2017) and would love to know that they will be upgraded to this "Feature".

Under consideration is like saying that a flat tyre perhaps needs to be changed. For me it is certainly not to be considered if the screen wakes us up at night.

it is as easy as allowing QuickView from for example 07:00 until 21:00. Away from this timezone, you must call the screen by intentionally pressing the button. What a great idea!

Please give me a hint if it will be available on my new Change 2's, or if I will have to sell them and go to another brand.

Thanks.

For those who have an Charge 2 that's still under warranty that bought them at a Costco or Best Buy or the like. I'd recommend returning the product as defective and that it wakes you up at night. The dealer will (should) make this note, and they'll package it up and send it back to Fitbit so the store can get their money back.

THIS will get FitBits attention when they start seeing returns with Sleep Tracker wakes people up at night.

@Mikeston - I too work at a reputable company that does the occasional Firmware updates on it's products. New features, bugs...etc

you know what makes a company look good, when they do updates on products that a years! old. Customers love that. they tell their friends. and they come back for more.

Maybe we're old school, and care about our current user base. Build a solid product, and they'll come back... in 5-10 years. It's a long game, but it works

Perhaps Fitbit has learn that there are so many people in the world that they'll just get new customers, rather than try to keep the ones they have, it's cheaper share holders are more interested in the short game.

I dunno.

@SunsetRunner : "I just would like a hint if this feature will be available for the Charge 2."

They've already given this hint in their response: "Please note that if this feature is developed it will be for Ionic and future devices."

They do not care about "old" devices, even though they are still currently sold as new devices as part of their current product lineup. They don't care about the customers who bought their devices for sleep tracking, only to instead be disturbed by their trackers. This is clear in their response and lack of action in the 3+ years this issue has been present.

@cdpage  @Mikeston  I also work for a manufacturer of technical products, and we release firmware updates.

At the very least, bugs like this should be addressed on existing products...especially since people have been complaining about it since before they even released the Charge 2!

Mine is less than a year old, and I'm already thinking about what I'll buy to replace it.  After this experience, it won't be a Fitbit.

@moosecat

Yes, unfortunately it seems the Charge 2 will be left out.

Why, Fitbit? Your charge 2's are still on the shop shelves and online. Is it really that difficult? Why no reply other that merging comments? If it cannot be done, then we need to know.

Since Fitbit responded with that comment, this thread has picked up. And because the comment was so vague, it's causing a lot of agree responses.

if they PLAN to NOT include this fix in the charge 2, sure they'd have a lot more angry customers... but at least we'd know and perhaps this thread would stop.

I bought mine too in November 2017

Hope Fitbit respond favourably to this.

Seeing as FitBit Moderators are avoiding us, maybe we should re-purpose the tread...?

Everyone here is upset with Fitbit. We can all help each other find a better alternative.

I'm seriously interested in a few Garmin's. They are apparently better at most sports anyhow. My buddy used to have a Fitbit and switched about a year ago and has loved it.

Sleep tracking isn't a priority for me, since Fitbit's Sleep Tracking capabilities are "wake you up every time you move" we'd get better sleep without it.

My FibBit Charge 2 is slowing starting to fall apart. (Strap connection not looking like it used to). when the band goes, I'll not replace it. I'll just get a new watch all together.

That's why I love Apple products. Software support for years even for old products. And that's exactly why I don't support Android smartphones. Sometimes you don't get any operating system updates after half a year.

I do not want to make this comparison Apple/Android for advertising purposes. I mention it because it looks like Fitbit unfortunately follows the "Android route".

I know the wheels are spinning fast these days and maybe I'm old-fashioned with my opinion, but sustainability should not just be a slogan of the marketing department.

The new firmware update for the Ionic makes life even more painful. Before you could swipe left, set screen to manual and then go to sleep. Now you have to long press the left button, set screen to manual, press left button again to exit and then again to switch the screen off. Its like Fitbit want you to struggle in life...

I can’t believe this hasn’t been fixed in an update yet. I keep getting startled when my arm moves while sleeping. I turned off the quick view setting and for some reason when it syncs with the watch it resets to on. There needs to be a sleep/ movie mode.

Yep! Agreed. Not happy with new iOS either. It takes ages to find the battery life %age too 😞
Come on FitBit!

Please create an option to automatically turn off quick view during sleep target time. Then it won't turn on unintentionally and disrupt sleep for you or partner. I can't think of anyone who would want their watch to light up when they move in their sleep in the night, so it could be the default. Or an option during setup.

They’ve done it. Finally! Way to go Fitbit. The latest update allowed me to put in my sleeping schedule and the quick view is disabled during that time. I’m very happy! Thank you.

I would expect to have such a setting in FitBit App. But there is nothing in the release notes (https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2025).

Indeed, what model? Is it a firmware or an app update?

@Cadwoman does it also disable tap to wake? That is, Double tapping the screen. I have never had quick view on, but tap to wake has been what disturbs me at night.

Thanks.

I can't see anything in the App or the web dashboard that suggests this is implemented for the Charge 2. Anybody else have any news?

I was wrong. I saw where I could put my sleep time hours in and I thought that was stopping the QuickView during those hours but it didn’t. I just don’t understand why they don’t fix this problem. Not customer friendly at all! Sorry for the in accurate post earlier.
