Hi It's also worth pointing out how useful the nutritional information in MyFitnessPal provides too. I had no idea how much fat, sugar and salt was in some foods I'd been eating regularly. Very disappointed with the Fitbit app in comparison.
This really does need to be a priority for Fitbit. I really like my Flex but when asked by interested friends I have to say don't buy the product yet due to the lack of a UK food db. This is a massive disinsentive to UK residents who would benefit either recreationally or health wise (as a weight reduction aid) from a Fitbit product. Users will simply lose interest in manually recording food, especially those who struggle to motivate themselves to lose weight in the first place.
In my eyes this is a significant reduction in the product functionality and its a real shame because many people will find it a barrier that eventually will make the fitbit redundant for them.
I know there have been other requests for a UK Food database, but there does not seem to have been any reply from a moderator since early 2014. So I am using this as a bump.
Please could we have a UK database - I am sure that we in the UK would be happy to scan in the food as we go to help build this up quickly........
I have only just got my fitbit charge and I am loving the fitbit dashboard, it's much nicer than the myfitnesspal one, but the lack of a UK food database means I'll be sticking with them as my main page.
I believe their database is crowdsourced, so it shouldn't be too difficult for you to do the same thing. I don't find it a huge problem to scan a barcode and then add the nutrition info off the label when I know it's going to be there for next time.
I've tried scanning in a few foods to the Fitbit dashboard but so far it hasn't recognised any of them. I suppose it's down to personal preference when it comes to which app you prefer. I think MyFitnessPal offers far more than the Fitbit app and this is really helpful. I would agree though that the Fitbit dashboard is a nicer interface.
They have been saying for over a year now that they are looking at bringing a UK food data base out, so far nothing. At least MFP you can add stuff and everyone can use it. They have a great database ( if you avoid the rubbish custom enties ). Thats why I never use Fitbit for food.
I really think a UK database for food is important to make this product simple to use and of real benefit to UK users. Please add UK food chains menu items ASAP.
Having read all the comments on the food data base it looks like i am not on my own wanting to see some english looking foods i sent them an email guess i wasted my time..MFP will have to do thats a shame as it would be better to keep it all on one sight
Just started using my fitbit, and agree with others, it really does need an English calorie counter. Fed up with having to search for the information elsewhere. When are we going to get our own?
Totally agree with all that has been said people here in the UK need a UK food database to be able to achieve their goals, I think it is rather unfair of the manufacturers to be selling this product in the UK and not have a UK database in it.
I asked about a UK food databse about a year ago, why do we have to wait so long? You probabaly have millions uk customers, dont we deserve the same service as the rest? I love my fitbit and have recommended it to loads of others but loosing faith myself, we sholdn't have to be logging food separately on a different app.
Gets my vote too, although I must confess to currently using the UK food database available with MyFitnessPal which is excellent and can be set up to synch with the Fitbit app.
Using Myfitnesspal for 2years works great i know it syncs with fitbit but id rather just use the software designed for the tracker. A UK food database would be a definite help.
A UK food db would be great. I'm currently using myfitnesspal to track food and calories but would prefer to ditch it and its awful advert-ridden interface for the much slicker Fitbit app. Yeah, it synchs a summary of my food, but Fitbit is all about the data, the low level data. I don't underestimate the effort involved in getting this up and running, and then maintaining it, but it would be a huge advantage to Fitbit in this territory.
Hi, the UK Food Database would be very greatfully appreciated, sooner rather than later, PLEASE 😄 Love the Fitbit but trying to convert the values is a complete ball ache!
My suggestion is to buy the food database from My Fitness Pal, rather than suggesting we use that app instead of Fitbit app. Just integrate it or allow it to be imported to the Fitbit app. THANKS
I also would love to see a UK database at for us Brits, it does let the app down, not having one. Surely you could link it automatically to the my fitness pal database.
