UK food database

Hi, enjoying my Flex/iOS app so far - do you have plans to develop a UK foods database?

Thanks!

This would be epic and help me as I feel my judgement isn't as accurate as a database 😄

Having bought the surge and charge HR it is disappointing that we cannot take full advantage of the food area without adding all the UK foods as custom foods, please develop this for the UK users.

Just bought the Surge and was really disappointed to find that there was no UK database.  I had a cornish pasty earlier and wanted to log it but FitBit doesn't even know what 1 is.

Really poor part of what would be a great product!

I'd like the echo the sentiments from people above. You have France, Germany and Spain databases, seems like a missed opportunity to not have UK in there.

If it is a case of data collection then I am sure you will have quite a few volunteers judging from this post.

Great product but you're in a crowded market so don't lose users over something trivial.

Cheers,

Please can we have a UK database, I bought mine in the states and used it with the US database, it was excellent. It is a bit of a disappointment now that I am back home in the UK.

Seems that uk database has been under consideration since 2013 thats 2 years to give us the software to use your hardware and you still have not decided if it is needed. now microsoft have brought out there band and o2 are doing tradeins lets see how many **ahem**bits get traded in for a useable in the uk product.

you had your chance and two years plus but did nothing i do not want to be a part of such lathargy.

good ridance fitbit

Is this an official announcement and if so where is it? Considering we're on the 24th they'd better get their bloody fingers out. Ill believe it when I see it. What have Santa, God and the Fitbit food database got in common? They're all bollocks.

Yes, I've been told it's now coming in March.  Check out the comments on this Facebook post:

Yes please!!! Would be completely beneficial to have a UK food database, find it frustrating that we have this amazing gadget that helps in so many areas yet I still have to use myfitnesspal just to log my food...

Wow, that certainly is a longer list of countries for the food databases!

I guess they forgot the UK since they were adding so many other countries at the same time.

So a lot of people have been waiting a looong time for you to release a UK Food Database.  Big promises to have this released in March and we now have a setting to use the UK food database.

Great I thought.  Started scanning a few food barcodes and no match. It comes up telling me do I want to help contribute to the database, but no actual way to do this, just to scan another barcode.

I started by scanning a pretty big brand Protein Bar: Maxi Promax Recover + Rebuild.  No match.

Then tried scanning my lunch; a Noodle Pot from Tesco. No Match.

Had a pack of chocolates lying about (Family Bag of Mars Revels)...and match.

So what's the deal? - all this wait and the food database probably only has a few records in, and likely to only be of major brands (i.e. Mars Bars etc).  Or is it just the unhealthy foods you are recording?

Back to MyFitnessPal again I guess :smileysad:

Please make the UK foods a priority as the manual input is too painful and laborious.

Yep, its finally arrived, guess what, its crape. Scanned my usual weekly Tesco shop which Isa combination of Tesco and propriety branded products and it found only 1 item from 30 and it got that totally wrong. Looks like I’m gonna stock with MyFitnessPal food database for a while longer. At least this feeds directly into my Fitbit tracker App

And an Australian food data base.

Looks like the UK food database is now available and working, but is pretty limited. Like others have said above, it's still no rival for MyFitnessPal.

Fitbit devs: what's the plan to make the functionality to add missing foods available? Until this is present, or the database made much more comprehensive though other means, there is limited value here.

**Update** Further investigation shows the food database is pretty extensive if you use the text search. It seems to be the link between the bar codes and the foods that is the issue.

Thanks.

Another vote for a UK food database - I'm sure you could find a lot of volunteers to upload data for you.  Plus many (if not all) supermarkets such as Sainsbury's and Waitrose provide this information on their websites and must be able to give you the data...?

Update: I've just noted others' comments that this is now available and am off to check it out...

I believe there now is one (since I'm using it).

I've very pleased to announce that a UK food database is now available!

To access it: log onto Fitbit.com > click the gear icon in the top right-hand corner > click 'settings' on the pulldown > click the 'personal info' tab on the left > scroll to the bottom of the page until you see food database > select United Kingdom and click save > log food.

Thanks for sharing your ideas with us on the Feature Request board.
