In addition to using the fitbit accelerometer to measure periods of wakefulness and restlessness, use the fluctuations in heart rate and heart rate variability to give a better idea of how many sleep cycles were completed or how much time was spent in light vs deep sleep stages. At least with heart rate, the data is all there already. You just need an extra algorithm that imports the heart rate vs time graph to the sleep section and gives a rough estimate of sleep quality and time. Heck, you could even build in a function that warns the user about nightmares, sleepwalking, or sleep apnea.
