Floating point data type vs other data types // Comparison two results

Hello,

i have two systems, whose are doing the same function (multiplication function). One of them has a floating-point library and other has no floating point library.

I need to compare the both results. I am going to write a c code or a vhdl program to do these comparison. PS: I have a Cyclone V altera board.

I would like to hear from you and get some suggestions to do this comparison and also what i need to take on consideration/avoid.
