Hello,

I'm very new to Fitbit and Fitbit development. I'm looking at different devices for my father to use to monitor his heart rate and notify me (not him) by text or some other method should it go out of range.

 

1. Does Fitbit, on its own with builtin software, provide this capability?

2. If no to #1, as a Fitbit developer, can I develop an app that can monitor heart rate and, if out of range, notify me by sending a text message or posting to a website or some other means?

 

My father can enter atrial fibrillation during the night and if he does, I'd like to be notified so I can give him a dose of medication to keep his heart rate from going high. This medication has negative effects on him when he is NOT in atrial fibrillation, so he cannot take it on a regular bases. He is in atrial fibrillation only around 1 in 5 days.

Many Fitbit models do have a fairly recent capability to give notifications if hert rate goes above or below preset limits when have been at rest for at least 10 minutes.  But I don't know of any way to get that notification to someone else but others on this might have ideas about that.

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Thanks Johnny. If the builtin apps on the Fitbit do not offer notification of others when limits are exceeded, I wonder if the SDK would allow a developer to implement such functionality. I'm an iOS app developer and would gladly learn the Fitbit SDK if a custom app could implement this functionality (be notified if heart rate limit is exceeded and send a text indicating so). As I research this, hope to hear from the experience of the community about this.
