Suppress system notifications while in app

Is there a way to suppress system notifications while app is running ?

 

For example I don't want to be informed that I reached 10k steps (with fireworks animation on screen) while I have my application open. Or any other system messages while in custom app.

Unfortunately, this is not currently possible via an API. You can enable DND in settings, but I don't know if that disables goal celebrations.
