Use FitBit Food Database in own calorie tracking app

Hey,

i´m currently looking for a food database with an api for programming my own calorie tracking app.

The project is for my bachelors thesis. I used fitbit for a very long time to track my health, steps and calories and was wondering if one could use their food database for own projects. Personally I think the database is pretty good and coulnd´t really find an alternative.
