When scrollview-item display property changed via JavaScript, the UI does not update properly

I am currently working on developing a game in which the hidden buttons are revealed as you progress, but the buttons react strangely when I change the display property via JS.

 

The first image shows the app functioning before the button is pressed.

The second one is after the button is pressed and the display property is set. The second button appears but seems to glitch over the first one.

The third one is after I tapped the grey area underneath the button, which seemed to fix the problem.

 

Any thoughts as to why this is happening?
