Brand new sense 2 locked up & wont install firmware update.

I received this Sense 2 tracker Friday the 19th from Amazon. Initial pairing went well until it said it needed to update firmware. That never completed. My screen is locked with the Fitbit logo randomly appearing & then going blank. I've tried pairing to 2 different devices. A Motorola phone running on Android 13 & a Samsung tablet running on Android 14. Both devices see the phone and request 4 digit pairing code. The code never comes on the screen. I've tried every thing I've come across for unlocking the screen to no avail. 

20 second reset, force stop the app, turn phone off 2 minutes, reload the app, Bluetooth off & back on. Etc

When I do the 20 second reboot the logo flashes 4-5 times rather quickly, then a full screen red X appears then the logo comes back intermittently.

Another observation. The Sense 2 seems to be in perpetual pairing mode. I keep getting a pop-up on my phone that Sense 2 is found with a setup button. Everytime I just "setup" it goes to the screen where it tells me the Tracker should be providing the 4 digit pairing code....but it's not. Still locked with logo randomly appearing & disappearing.
