It says in manual here . Whether it's true or not we will probably never know.

Sense 2 / Versa 4 do not have the swimming laps tracking in real time feature and in the past this was associated to the fact of not having a gyroscope. In my opinion it's an error of the manual. For this release Fitbit is really setting a new record for incongrounces on documentation, information, official replies in many of the features.

@Dopovo that's why it's not sure which source should be trusted. Although mind that association of gyroscope and swim lap tracking has been done only by the users and never confirmed by Fitbit. There are Polar and Garmin devices capable of tracking swim laps in-watch without gyroscope just based on accelerometer data (needs strong push-off and and then glide). Isn't it funny that we got to the point we don't know whether we should trust the user's manual? 🤣 well, somebody will do the tear-down sooner or later and we will know what sits inside 🙂
