Hundreds of steps logged before ever putting it on my wrist

As the title suggests, I just got my Fitbit (Inspire 3) and after setting it up I realized it quickly shot ups to hundreds of steps. This was before it even touching my wrist. Later while it was still charging it may have climbed up a bit higher! Is this normal?

Most people on thread have the Sense2.  

I had a question I posted here that sometimes my phone app registered way more steps than the watch.     A knowledgeable person answered that my app also had a sensor on it. He told me how to find it.  I found no such sub app.  So Im no help to you, except to say such a thing must exist.
