Sense 2 - Step count keeps jumping up and then back down

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've had this watch since last summer but this issue just started in the past week. I think it might occur mostly after logging a walk, where I end the walk and my total step count has jumped way up. Then it jumps back down like 3-4k steps to what I can only assume is the correct number. And a few times I've "reached my 10k" while literally sitting still, only to have it jump back down again a short while later.

I've rebooted my watch and the app seems to carry the correct step count, but I can't figure out how to stop my watch from doing this.

I'll add that this is a replacement for a previous Sense 2 that I had for 2.5 years that stopped turning on after about 15 minutes standing in a pool, when it's supposed to be water resistant. This new watch is frequently glitchy, refusing to sync every couple of weeks -- so maybe it's a lemon.

---

Just adding that I posted this and looked at my watch, it was at 10,050 or so steps. I looked at the app, it was more like 8500 steps. I synced the app and my watch and my watched jumped to 11,329 steps!! I am sitting down!

Hey,

I have had this with my sense 2, started in about the last 10 days, step count jumping up and down. Is there a bug or is my Fitbit on its way out??

Hi @Aloiseb11  @Runnergirl13333  - unfortunately there is no fix and it's obviously very frustrating - you can follow more here Unreliable step counting bug

It's related to processing on the Fitbit servers and syncing, the only workaround is to turn off Bluetooth and use the watch in standalone mode.

This must be a bug as mine started doing this at about the same time, jumps on on the watch and phone and then jumps back. Really frustrating as I can’t trust the count now. Mine is a versa 3. Been great up until now. Come to think of it, it was after I did an update of the App…

Same thing here - step count can jump by thousands of steps and then back down to actual steps after several refreshes - VERY frustrating!!!!

I noticed this as well a few days ago... I haven't seen it very much in the last couple days, but I did notice it a couple times, both were in the morning for me.  I've had my Sense 2 working for 879 days, most of which had a very inconsistent heart rate monitor (which has been seemingly sorted out now), but I always took comfort in the step counter.  When that started going funny, it really made me wonder... ha ha!

Syncing with the app has really gone downhill... I haven't been on the Community pages much lately, so I must be really late to that party...

I have the sense and having the same issue. Which started about a week after the urgent update. I have had my sense for 4 years and never had any issue until this latest update.

I started having this same exact issue about a week ago. It happens every day. I have to sync about 5 times before it corrects itself. I guess I'm glad I'm not alone but it's very frustrating!

I have had the same experience recently. Have you gotten any suggestions as to how to fix this?

I am having the same issues with the step "jumps." One way happy I am not the only one but sad that it is happening. I was thinking maybe mine was going out and I needed a new one, but doesn't sound like a new one will do anything different. 😞 heidi

So glad to see this here! After a restart, a re-install of the app, and a factory reset I was thinking I'd have to go shopping soon. Now I see it's not my device! I'll just keep syncing and wait it out!

Unfortunately it seems it's a widespread bug! There's a link to another thread someone posted above where lots of other people have reported it. Over there they suspect it's a server sync issue so a suggested workaround is to turn off Bluetooth and have the watch be standalone, but personally I don't want to do this. I hope they fix it soon, to have the most basic function of a Fitbit not work is pretty ridiculous!

YES

Me 2 everyone

Step count went doubled to 24,000 few days ago then a few hours later corrected

Today has lost steps from 8,000 to 6,000 and won't go back up despite several syncs

I have tried 4 different trackers- 2 different Sense, 1 Versa 3, and a Sense 2. All have the same issue, so it is definitely the app. Also no stress management score for the last week. It keeps telling me to wear my device for 14 hours to get a score. I wear it all day except to shower!?

And yet no comments from Fitbit Help.

I'm experiencing the same issue! Today, my Sense 2 watch said I was on 15,800 steps and then went down to 13,918 steps half an hour later. Then as I got the app open to check my steps, it synced and reduced my watch step count by 18 steps to 13,900. It's so frustrating.

Happened again today.  Went to 11316 steps then back down to 8071.  Even got the 8500 alarm congratulating me!  Wonderful if it were true.
