Sense 2 sets own goals!

There are so many functions not working properly that I finally decided to turn off or close the crazy stuff, and just focus on steps, sleep data, and health metrics.  I don't want to know about bizarre HR readings, or "progress" towards goals I don't have.  I found a clock face that I thought just showed date, time, and steps   Perfect!   I can go to the app for sleep data and health metrics   Unfortunately, my watch is still dutifully recording and displaying stuff I don't want.  Even the watch face gives me data that is innacurate or not of interest to me.  It reports stairs climbed, when I in fact have to avoid steps due to bad knees, for instance.  Sense 2 will not let me zero out the stair goal, nor will they stop reporting it.  I DO have a step goal and a distance goal, but Sense 2 won't honor them.  It wants me to walk 50% more miles every day.  So it reports continuous failure, of course.  I thought it might be trying to automatically determine my stride length, so I changed it to the average stride length for my height.  I have synced, restarted, and various other things to get the message across, yet it is determined that my goals don't matter.  Anybody know how to fix this?  I am starting to despise this device!

This is a last-ditch attempt for me to render this device usable.  I realize Google is not planning to fix the many bugs or return the missing features.  It is too late for me to return the device.  So my solution was to turn off and/or close anything that wasn't working, and at least make use of the few things that seem to work.  If Sense 2 cannot even acknowledge or work with my own goals, but instead insists on imposing Google's goals, the last remaining option seems to be the trash can, and a determination to never buy another Google product.  If somebody has a better solution, please let me know.  Thank you.

Hi @sgbednar - for the stairs, in the Fitbit App click Edit and remove floors and click Done, then choose a face that doesn't display it.

@guy I already did remove it in the app, at least.  Thanks, though.  I guess you can tell my frustration level is getting high.  I am not patient with technology that doesn't work.  Any clue why Sense 2 insists on inserting it's own distance goal everywhere when I have chosen another?

@sgbednar- just in case it helps, try logout of the Fitbit App and restarting the watch and phone. It may be possible that the changes you made on the phone didn't get registered properly, though someone else like @t.parker might have a better idea

@Guy_ I read this post but held up with replying as I didn't quite understand it (it's a bit chaotic).

@sgbednar I understand you want to have only two goals: custom steps and custom distance and this is what you want to see in the a) app and b) watch face? You don't want notifications about AZM or anything else either. Am I correct?

A few questions that may help partially solve your problem:

- what app do you use (iOS/Android)

- is your distance in km or miles? (there is a known issue in Android app and milea gauge)

Now, take a deep breath, calm down and let's see whether we can solve it (or not).

@guy, thank you!  The problems with syncing and with reboots hanging have recurred since we talked last, so I did go through this process once in an attempt to fix those.  But you are right, some of the changes have happened since then, so I will try again.  The watch and the app do seem to have persistent communication issues.

@t.parker thanks for trying.  I will take a stab at a more linear explanation:

1.  Many things do not work on this device, most notably the AZM and the HR during exercise.  Anything that depends on that data (like readiness score). Is therefore unreliable.

2.  In trying to alleviate my frustration, I tried shutting down everything that is too unreliable to be helpful.  That leaves me with steps, distance, calories, sleep data, health metrics,   Since I have goals for steps, distance, and sleep, I can still (hopefully) derive some benefit from using the device.

3.  I installed a different clock face that would not display HR and AZM.  It does scroll through steps, distance, calories, stairs.

4.  Two problems remain. One is minor (it still displays stairs, which my bad knees can't do, and there is no way to select "0" as a goal.)

5.  The other problem is more troublesome.  I do have a goal set for distance, however the watch seems to have a different number in mind for me...50% higher than my goal.  Consequently, it keeps informing me that I am falling short, even when I have been meeting my goal.  The app gets it right.  The watch does not.

FYI: I have an Android phone, reporting distance in miles.  I also have been having issues with syncing and with rebooting the watch.  These may be relevant?  Syncing sometimes works, and sometimes not.  It sometimes takes multiple sync attempts and scrolling on the watch to get everything synced.  When I try to reboot the phone, it hangs, staying on the Fitbit icon, sometimes indefinitely.  Multiple reboot attempts will eventually bring it back.  I have replaced the watch once.  The replacement is no better than the original, plus it has the reboot issue.  I am concluding at this point that the Sense 2 just doesn't work, due to bugs and/or hardware malfunction.  If you understand any of the issues and can offer suggestions, I would love to hear them!  Thank you.
