Sense 2 update suddenly available

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've just seen a message on my fitbit app telling me that there's an update available for my Sense 2. When I tap it, there's a red band that says "Update tracker software". Has anyone got a similar message, and if so, have you installed it? I'd be interested to know if anyone has been brave enough to give it a go, given all the issues reported here.

Hi @Mcav75  - a good question, unfortunately the message is not very meaningful as it doesn't tell you what version you have now and what version is available.

You can see your current version by tapping on your device in the app, then go to this forum and see details of the firmware updates and comments.

One of the problems if your watch is out of warranty is if there is a problem with the update and you have to do a factory reset you may no longer be able to use the watch due to the new Fitbit App not being able to set it up again.

If your watch is working fine there can be a risk fiddling with it, especially if you don't know the effects, as you can't go back.

The update may work for most people to the latest level, though a previous firmware update had to be withdrawn due to too many faults.

Space racer, It's the one before the disaster of a FW that started to roll out earlier this year, and is evidently now available to all customers.

However, device firmware is not "fiddling with it". It's part of routine upkeep. Also don't worry yourself about my warranty. I assure you that, if a FW update bricked a watch, I'd get a refund even outside of the manufacturer's warranty.

@Mcav75   I updated my Sense 2, but I will note that it took three tries.  This update adds Dynamic GPS, a significant update if you have been disappointed by the Sense 2 built in GPS.

Hi LZeeW,

Thanks for letting me know - How has the watch being doing in general since the update?

@Mcav75   It works just fine.  In fact, I've seen one major improvement.  It used to take two or more hours for my Sleep Score to show up in my Today stats.  It shows up faster, but I haven't timed it out.  This isn't critical for me.  The update also added the Clocks app, a feature that lets you change your clock face from the device screen.

Thanks for the reply. That's encouraging. I will however hold off a bit longer before hitting the button.

Cheers.

I decided to go for it. I charged the watch up to full and left it on the charger while it updated. Went through fine. No issues identified so far.

It still won't register my debit card which is a major reason why I've pursued a refund that I may yet take.
