I've had my Fitbit Sense 2 for a month.  I've worn it day and night. For 2+ weeks, it didn't record my breathing, then it did record it for a week, then it stopped.  Why?

The app always showed the variation in the heart rate, but that stopped showing up 5 days ago.

Most often the app shows that the watch has synced recently, but occasionally it claims that it hasn't synced for many many minutes, yet usually the number of steps is the same, which suggests that it has synced. What's up?  If I have my phone restart, it always syncs.

What exactly is measured when we go up the stairs?  The app shows that I've gone up/down 4 times in the last month, but i do the stairs many times each day?  I'm disabled, so I climb up slowly, one footed.

Hi @LOIj.  I can help you with three of your questions.

  • Fitbit actually measures your heart rate on a beat-to-beat basis.  Our heart rate changes when we inhale and exhale.  Some heart medicines and minor irregular heart beats can keep this feature from working.
  • Your Today screen shows your live heart rate and steps without syncing.
  • The Sense 2 counts stairs because it has a relative altimeter, a pice of hardware the measures changes in air pressure as we go up stairs or a hill (not down).  It uses 10 ft or about 3 m to sense a floor.  You must go up in a smoothly and continuously, without stopping to get credit for a floor.

Can you please clarify your other question?  Are you asking about your HRV in your Health Metrics?

Thank you for your helpful answers.  I suppose I could ignore the floor count, since my stairs go up 5, up 4, up 5 steps. Between that and my disability [7  spine fusions plus neuropathy] it will probably never be accurate.  OTOH, if it were a bit better, it might spur me on to do better.

The Heart Rate Variability is what quit showing 9 days ago.   I do have a heart beat irregularity and I take a heart med.  I bought this watch precisely because it is supposed to check heart rate, etc. and because one of my doctors urged me to get a smart watch. So far I haven't been able to get the ECG thing to work.

There are so many things on this watch, so I'm trying to figure out what is worth my time. Quite frankly, when I've done a search for how to change or check a feature, the results have NEVER been accurate on how to even find the exact "page" I need to see.  I'm often above average on this type of thing, but so far I'm not surevit is really a "smart" watch.  When I bought it last month, it did a very long update, so I think it is supposedly up to date.
