Wait what? 'Upgrade' from Sense to Sense 2 = no more Google Assistant?!

Seriously. Today I received my Sense 2 and spent ages trying to activate Google Assistant to get it to work like it did on my Sense.

I was surprised to have to turn to the forum to figure out how to do this, but now I'm only finding posts about Assistant not being available and not even being planned anymore for Sense 2. What?

 

Is this true or am I missing something? What is happening dear Fitbit people? And how is upgrading from a Sense to a Sense 2 actually an 'upgrade'? Now I seem to have spent money on loosing functionality. Which doesn't make 'sense' and is actually extremely disappointing.
Can we still expect some progress or is this part of a Google strategy to kill Fitbit and get everyone to migrate to Pixel?

No, the possibility to have Google Assistant back has been categorically excluded by Fitbit.
