Why is my Fitbit thinking my walking while cooking and washing dishes?

Sooooo basically I’m trying to track my steps but I realized that I jumped from 0 to 1000 from literally just cooking, washing, and walking very little around my kitchen this morning.

People say to turn off “auto generate” under the exercise app but I don’t have that option. So what can I do? I’m currently putting in on my ankle but it’s uncomfortable because it’s so tight and my ankles are thick.

How can I fix this issue?

Hi @rolebgo2 and @o1swalt sooooooooooo basically your posts were merged because they're identical - word for word. It's easier to get more relevant responses when they are in the same thread.

Why not charge your Fitbit while cooking so you don't need to worry about added steps or getting food or liquids spilled on it?

That would irritate me for a number of reasons. 1. I paid good money for a watch to simplify my life, You know put it on and forget about it until needed.2. Why does she have to babysit it to make sure it does its job correctly?. 3. Your fix isn't a fix. It's a work around. Quality products dont need work-arounds .

Hi @Rosamundi9.   If you wear your Fitbit on your non-dominant wrist, you can reduce the number of these false steps by changing the wrist setting to Dominant.  The changes the sensitivity of the accelerometer, the hardware that senses motion patterns.  It will reduce, but not eliminate false steps.  No one can eliminate all false steps.  There are so many things we do where a wrist motion doesn't have a leg motion (step) to go along with it.  My hair stylist gave up on wrist tracking.  She would get thousands of steps standing still, styling hair.

This is a known limitation of wrist worn devices, not limited to Fitbit.
