I think these are leather straps. They look premium but they tend to accumulate dirt, sweat and start to smell shortly after wearing them. I also find them expensive for such a little material.

I would go for these https://www.fitbit.com/es/shop/accessories/versa3-sense-sport-band as they're both good for business and sport situations and they're cheaper. Very easy to clean.

As for the 5 cents, they would rather prefer not to sell you the item than to charge it 5 cents more and save you the shipping expenses.
