I charged my sense fully last night, and the screen properly worked. Then this morning it won’t come on, either by turning your wrist or pushing the side button. It won’t sync. I had this one about a year and it’s similar to the update fiasco. I did check my charging cable too.

Thanks for the information you shared in your post about this issue with your Fitbit Sense.
In this case, I'd like to share some additional steps to you in order to get this resolved. Since the device is not syncing, looks like it could be a battery issue, with this in mind, let's try to troubleshoot the issue by doing the next:
As a first step, I'd like to try cleaning the charging contacts on the back of the device, using a toothbrush and some water.
I also need you to clean the pins that are on the charging cable, you will need to use a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol, making sure no pieces of the swab remain on the pins.
Finally you will need to connect it to another USB port or a UL certified USB wall charger.

I charged my Sense and came back and the screen is black. Can’t wake it up. I cleaned the contacts on the watch but still no response. I ordered a new charging cable but it hasn’t arrived yet.
any ideas would be appreciated.

Since you have already ordered a new charging cable, my suggestion is to wait until you get it and try with that one. If the issue persists, and you have already tried the steps recommended above, you can always get in touch with our Support Team via chat or call to get a resolution to your issue.
