Fitbit Sense not tracking sleep stages

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

For the past week my sleep score chart is only showing the basics.  I've lost all I do on H2O stats, heart rate & stages graphs.

I've done everything that has been suggested so far within all the forums.

@SunsetRunner A warm welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thank you for the troubleshooting tried prior to posting.

So I'm better able to respond, I'd like to know the Fitbit model that you have. Also please confirm you've checked the following scenarios where you might see your sleep pattern (which shows your time asleep, restless, and awake) instead of sleep stages:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device higher on your wrist (about 2-3 finger widths above your wrist bone). The band should feel secure but not too tight.
  • If you used the Begin Sleep Now option in the Fitbit app (instead of simply wearing your device to bed). For more information on automatic sleep tracking, see How do I track my sleep with my Fitbit device?
  • If you slept for less than 3 hours.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

My Fitbit is the new Sense.

I've done everything suggested.

It seemed to have restarted itself late one night just as I was falling
asleep. Hours before it froze completely.

I've shut down and charged. I've held the button down 10+ seconds till I
saw the logo 3xs in the last 3 days. Still no sleep stages. Just length
of time, restless amount.

Everything else still works. I don't wear in the shower and take off when
too sweaty. I keep my wrist and band dry and clean it every now and then
to prevent a rash I tend to get from the band.

I've kept it always 1-2 fingers width past my wrist bone. It was working
till a glitch last week and stopped monitoring all together this week.

Fitbit app doesn't show sleep score.

It shows score and sleep stage in the morning.

I then take a nap in afternoon then it shows my nap no score cause its less than 3 hour I understand.

But then the sleep before have everything gone but showing only my sleep or awake.

This is bad. I have also log another issue where eda scan guided session not sync into app.

Now another issue.

Hi @SunsetRunner first thing I do, when I don't see the expected sleep stages, is to open the offending sleep period and look under the sleep graph. Often times Fitbit has a note explaining to me why I am seeing simple sleep.

I'm sorry @Hax_Siao I'm having problems following you. It looks like, to me, your asking about past sleep periods that may at one time have a sleep score, but now do not.

I've been in communication with Fitbit support.

The sleep stages were there when I first got my sense in late Sept. As of
Nov, even though I'm taking advantage of the free premium membership, the
sleep stages are only showing maybe once a week. The rest of my sleep
monitors as if I have a standard free plan. No charts.

I've done everything suggested with zero chance. I even did a factory
reset out of frustration. The stages came back 1 night only. Everything
is supposedly up-to-date.

All these issues seemed to have started when my watch did an automatic
update while on my wrist the first week of November and hasn't fixed
itself.

I haven't yet plugged into my computer, even though the version doesn't
seem to need it. But that is my next step today, since again. No stages,
just the basic - restless, awake, asleep numbers (graph for oxygen not
there)

I sorry it is hard to understand when I'm not sure I'm explaining it
correctly myself.

I have free Fitbit premium membership. This is how I see sleep stages. Open the Fitbit app on iPhone, I see Today page and I touch the sleep tab which takes me to another page where my sleep score is there. On this page I see the hours I slept, time asleep and the sleep scores of all the days for which I am using the Sense to record the sleep. Now touch the date for which you want to see the sleep stages for example 11/08/20. Now you will be moved to another page where you will see three tabs, Time Asleep, Deep and REM, Restoration. Touch these tabs to get the graphs which you are looking for. I was also looking for these graphs and I found it recently. I noticed that in Fitbit app I need to dig deeper to find the things. There’s a lot of information in the app. I hope you find the information you were looking for.

Premium is not required to see sleep stages.

Glad to hear that, I got the free membership since I bought the Sense so I didn’t know that. I was just telling her where to look for sleep stages.

I have the same problem with my Sense. It worked perfectly for over a year. Since the last upgrade, my Sense does not track sleep stages. Nothing else has changed, just the upgrade. I think it is a Fitbit problem.

Hi,

I have a new Sense.  Just 5 days using it so far.

I also received Sleep Pattern data last night, instead of Sleep Stages, which I received the first 4 nights.

Since the software MUST KNOW why it did this, why not let it tell me? Something like one of the following:

1) We didn't get a consistent heart rate reading.  Add suggestions... Please try again tomorrow.

2) You used the Begin Sleep Now option.  Try letting us detect you sleep time.  Please try again tomorrow.

3) We detected less than three hours of sleep which we need for Sleep Stages to be recorded.  Please try again tomorrow.

Why leave the use guessing, and frustrated as I am now?

By the way, that Sleep Note about "Why did I get Basic Sleep Details" shown in a post above from 2020, does not appear in my Android App.

I got a Versa 3 about a month ago and it only ever tracked sleep stages 2-3 times no matter what I did to try and solve the issue. I have had a charge 3 and 4 and never had this problem. I sent the Versa back and got a sense. Now it is not showing sleep stages. I’m beyond frustrated and am about to jack in Fitbit and get and Apple Watch 🤬

Actually, I just had issues that one night.  It has correctly recorded Sleep Cycles each night since then.  I'm just making sure the watch is snug, and a bit further up my arm, and it seems to record correctly now.
