Fitbit Sense - reading heart rate with tattoos

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I currently have a Fitbit Versa 2, and it doesn't read my heart rate over my tattoos (I have to have it higher up my arm).

Have the lasers/sensors been updated on the Sense to be able to detect my heart rate through tattoos now?

Hi, @lunatone , the Sense uses essentially the same technology as the other trackers that detect heart rate: LED lights shine on the skin and measure how much of the light is absorbed and this information is used to calculate your heart rate.  I understand that they have improved the accuracy of this calculation, but it seems likely that as the technology os basically the same, as with your Versa 2 the tattoo will affect how much light is absorbed and make detection difficult and/or accuracy poor.

Here’s a screenshot from the website which suggests that the basic technology of shining a light on the skin is the same.

It might be worth finding somewhere where you could try it out to confirm.  Alternatively, if you buy direct from Fitbit they have a 45 day guarantee of satisfaction, so you could return it within that period for a refund (do check the terms here )

I just bought the new Sense and returned it within an hour, although the device itself is nice, it doesn’t fix the issues I have had in the past with Fitbit’s sensors and my tattoos. Not to say yours wouldn’t work as there are so many variables but if your versa doesn’t work properly, then I would say it’s highly unlikely unfortunately.
