Google Assistant won't stay connected to my Sense

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Good afternoon My problem is for some reason with no changes made to the phone or the app My sense regularly loses connection with the Google Assistant.

I can connect it within the app and it will do my reminders I can ask it questions but after a short time no more than 30 minutes The function will no longer be available. The watch will give the status that something went wrong and it may work if you try again.

Obviously it doesn't work.

I have reset the phone, reset the app , reset the watch. All permissions are as they should be and Bluetooth is functioning just fine. I'm not sure what's going on and what is causing the issue.

I continue to get other notifications messages and calendar events with no issue it's only trying to use the Google Assistant on the sense where I have this issue.

Please advise as this is a key function for me.

Same! I have a Versa 3 and it's just been the last few days, maybe a week, where my google assistant constantly disconnects. No new changes!

Same here. Since a week, approx 24 April. Google assistant keeps disconnecting. Running on android/Samsung galaxy S22.

Make sure to hit the Me Too button on the original post.

Just wanted to update...while logging out and back into the fitbit app seems to allow google assistant to stay connected a bit longer; after an hour or two it disconnects and reverts to its previous behavior of disconnecting every ten or fifteen minutes.

Mine did the same thing. Latest email instructions:

"Please try a factory reset, then set it up as a new device and make sure all the permissions are allowed. To do a factory reset on the device, see How do I erase my Fitbit device? (help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/2216.htm?Highlight=fac...
Please note that you’ll need to reinstall any apps on your device after the reset, and any data on the Fitbit device that was not synced will be lost."

bubleklutz, let us work this together so they have two people going through the steps.

@Redderek  - do not factory reset it is an app problem.

I am using an old Fitbit app version and it's working fine.

Hi All, firstly this Google Assistant disconnecting is not a watch issue so there is nothing you can do to fix it, only make it worse.

I have been testing all day with an older Fitbit App version which was working well but disappointingly it too became disconnected.

It looks like Google changed something again with the Assistant and it remains to be seen if Fitbit can find a work around.

When Fitbit introduced the Sense in September 2020, it came with a promise of Google Assistant which came later with an update and worked well and completely.

Later in 2021 Google Assistant routines suddenly stopped working, leaving only basic commands, and this was never fixed, but seemingly wasn't coinciding with any Fitbit App or firmware update, so probably something that Google changed.

This may be the reason that Google Assistant was dropped from the Sense 2 and Versa 4, the team with the original Google Assistant knowledge may no longer be available to make a new version for the newer watches and may not be around to fix this new disconnection problem.

If they are able to fix it let's hope they can also make the Google Assistant routines work again. Whether the fix will be done in background or a change to the Fitbit App remains to be seen.

@Redderek- I have been testing with an old Fitbit App version and that too finally disconnected - so it may be a Google problem at the base of this issue. see longer explanation Google Assistant won't stay connected to my watch which concerns routines that stopped working in 2021.

Between this and taking away all of the friend activities, my reasons for using Fitbit over other brands are quickly dwindling.

Which version were you testing with? And I assume on Android?

HI @paperskye - stable 3.51.1 on Android

I got an email asking if any of the responses I received helped. The answer is NO! The suggestions did not help and the problem still exists. So, when is, if at all, Fitbit going to acknowledge the issue and start to resolve a solution?

Periodically I get the Something wrong message on my Sense when trying to use Google Assistant. I have to restart my phone to get it to work.

I have a similar problem. For no reason Sense told me something is wrong yesterday evening.. I Logged out and back in to the Fitbit App on my OnePlus 7T running Android 12. I reattached the Sense to Google Assistant but that did not solve the problem. I had to restart my phone. Then Assistant on the Sense began to work but this morning the Sense said check Bluetooth probably because the Sense and phone got separated. I turned Bluetooth off and then back on with the phone and Sense in close proximity. Now  I got the Something Wrong message on the Sense. I had to restart the phone for the Assistant on the Sense to work.

While that's a awesome, detailed explanation of the background of Google Assistant functionality, I'm not sure it is "the root cause" of what people on this thread are reporting now in regards to Bluetooth, because of 2 data points:

1) The number of people that are only experiencing this issue with Bluetooth now (not the list of "basic" available commands for Goggle Assistant) - I would have expected if the current problem was as explained there would have been many more complaints in 2021.

2) I've had my Sense for 2 + years and I've NEVER had any issues with Google Assistant & Bluetooth during the entire time - except for now! 😞

Very frustrating! I'm having the exact same problem on my Sense. It was working fine forever, then, all of a sudden, it disconnects from Google Assistant multiple times a day. I reconnect it only to have it happen again. I've also done all the things.... reboot, reinstall, restart...... etc. Google bought Fitbit, now Google doesn't work on Fitbit. Go figure.  😞

Thanks! But I've tried reinstalling the app, restarting my versa 2 watch. It happens multiple times a day and it's very frustrating!!

@Perrycan - as mentioned in the post there is nothing you can do to fix it, so no point trying, you are more likely to create other problems if you do.

Guy:
I do find it seems to be happening multiple times a day but usually by restarting my Android phone
it will work at least for a short time. It did work after I went through the steps I mentioned
earlier for a few hours but failed this morning. I don't know if Bluetooth is involved with the
problem but I thought maybe this might help the engineers trying to fix the problem.

Same with my Versa 3. Recently keeps disconnecting from Google Assistant. Really annoying when I go to set a timer during workouts. Which I have to do using Google Assistant because Fitbit removed the saved timer feature and setting the timer manually is so fiddly.
