Google assistant not working on fitbit sense and Android phone

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hi.  I bought a fitbit sense over Xmas and have been struggling to get Google Assistant working with my Android phone.  I just always get the reply "google assistant is not available for this account" - however

1. Google assistant works ok on the phone itself - so it's not an issue with my google account

2. I've followed all of the instructions in the fitbit app on the phone and successfully connected it all and google assistant in the app says it is working (or so the app says)

3. I've made sure I am on the latest version of everything

4. I've restarted the phone and fitbit and disconnected/reconnected multiple times as people mentioned issues

5. I've looked at a ton of help pages and made sure things like run in background are set on the app on the phone

6. I live in australia which is a supported country/location

Does anyone have any ideas?  I am at a loss but it's pretty annoying - thanks

Hi @lucal77 - you can try firstly

  • changing all your language and location to US in both the Fitbit account profile
  • and check the Google Assistant profile, and the accounts and permissions match
  • Make sure you allow both the Fitbit app AND the Google Assistant app to run in the background on your phone.
  • Verify that you allowed the Fitbit app and Google Assistant access to location services.and see if you can set it up
  • If you can set it up you can go back to the original language and locations

Secondly check your internet connection

  • checking you don't have an internet issue, by seeing if you can download a clock face successfully?

If there is an internet issue it can be caused by the use of the following on your phone:

  • VPN
  • Adblock software
  • Security software
  • Private DNS

or possibly incorrect Fitbit App permissions

Once you get it set up you will need to activate it, and again after every login.

Hope this helps.

Hi Guy - thanks for this.  I had already tried most of the above - but hadn't tried the country/language settings.  Unfortunately made no difference - I made sure to disconnect/restart at each point as well.  Downloads work fine.
I did do 1 last test to try and isolate the problem and connect to my dad's phone and setup the fitbit app there - which worked fine - including the assistant.  He is running Android 12 - my Moto E7 is just on Android 10 - so it seems very likely that there is some sort of compatibility issue.  Happy to try any other suggestions but running out of hope that this can be resolved at this point.

@lucal77  - make sure you remove Bluetooth entries from your dad's phone after the test. So you don't have syncing problems with your phone.

Google assistant works fine from Sense with Android 10, so it may be a configuration thing with the Moto E7, thoroughly check the security and account settings.

You can try logout and login of the Fitbit App, and reactivate, or even uninstall the Fitbit App and reinstall, redo notifications and app notifications setup and any special setups. Tedious but might help.

Hi Guy,

thanks for that.  I've tried everything.  Hard reset of fitbit, uninstalled fibit app on phone and re-installed, unlinked sense and relinked multiple times.  No idea which other account settings I can check at this point.  Thanks for your help anyway - I've raised a support call with fitbit but no result as yet.  Very frustrating.

@lucal77  - even though you reinstalled the Fitbit App, still try clear cache and force stop, and possibly logout and in and reactivate again.
