Heart rate inaccurate on Fitbit Sense

Hey

is anyone else experiencing huge heart rate inaccuracy during exercise with the sense?

During exercise with the sense it won’t ever get above 120bpm for me

but if I use my charge 4 during the EXACT same exercise my heart rate is between 145-170bpm in the cardio zone

It’s extremely disappointing and I don’t want to have to switch to my charge 4 everytime I exercise to ensure accurate heart rate

defeats the purpose of having the sense

seriously one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had.

Honestly, I think the HR is reading even lower than before. Example from yesterday: Sense HR 88/Elliptical 145. The workout at max for this old gal felt like 145 certainly not 88!

@Irish57 same thing here. My resting heart rate seems to be closer to what it should be, but did a HITT class yesterday, my max HR was 130 with only 10 minutes in fat burn and 0 in cardio and peak. I know that I was in the peak zone for most of the class. It is very frustrating!

Do you have a time frame on when this issue will be fixed? I've had this $300 watch for an entire year now and the heart rate has always been inaccurate. It's very frustrating because that's the main reason I purchased the watch. All I ever hear from customer service is that you guys are aware and working on it, but can this issue be fixed? If so, when??

I was surprised to see that new firmware update (128.6.12) come down this morning. I updated my sense before the gym and it seemed to be "better " than before. Definitely more accurate at the lower levels but the jury is still out on the upper levels.

Will monitor this and circle back in a few days. Hey - at least it's something?

Cheers

Sonic.

@NeilFinny, if you gave your Sense to your dad, I hope he doesn't pay attention to the heart rate values. He may have a heart attack if he sees 120 or 140 bpm when, in fact, his heart his quietly beating at 70 bpm. It happened to me, except the heart attack. But my heart raced up to 120s when that happened for the first time...

After this last update, two days ago, Sense's HR seems less prone to those fake spikes, but it's still too soon to say.

Except for walking to the shops he doesn't do much exercise. I wouldn't trust it for him if he was using it for proper readings

Of course Fitbit was on top the game until they introduced PP in these new devices. My guess is their algorithm and the new hardware are not interacting successfully. I've to give it to Fitbit for trying the new technology but it shouldn't have been released publicly until tested for accuracy.

I love Fitbit App and its interface is fantastic with quite easy to read outputs of stats

I'll wait for the new devices to, may be, get back on-board.

Fitbit please make sure to get the HR accuracy, as your ECG, in par with Apple which proves it can be done.

I am having the same issue. Ironically my old charge did so much better. I think I may have to return the Sense- is this possible?

Last week I made a suggestion, on the proper place for Suggestions, for Fitbit to create the possibility of getting more accurate Instant Heart Rate readings using the ECG electric sensor instead of the optical sensors used by Sense for its continuous HR readings.

As many of you probably know, heart rates measured with ECGs are, in general, much more accurate than those taken by optical sensors like the ones used in watches and trackers, that can not use a strong light with wrong wavelengths, otherwise our skin would get burned after some time. The difficulties on Sense are that the ECG app provides only a 30 seconds HR average and it requires that we keep two of the other hand fingers touching the Sense metallic outer ring in order to close the electric circuit, which is just not practical for continuous HR readings.

For some strange reason, a Fitbit Moderator quickly moved my suggestion to a 3 years old thread with a similar suggestion by @DrWho but to calibrate the optical HR readings. Sense and the ECG app didn't even exist 3 years ago. On top of that, this thread, which you can find here , has now a confusing title, probably not the original one by @DrWho , that is much more about improving ECG than Heart Rate accuracy, which was not the basic idea of both DrWho's and my suggestion. Asked to correct the title, 7 days later the Moderator has not done it yet, nor even replied.

With a title like that, I doubt that any user looking for a suggestion to improve the HR accuracy will ever open that thread, let alone vote for it.

So I leave its link here  in case you want to have a look and maybe vote for it.

Remember that the Suggestions text boxes don't allow texts as long as this, so their explanations have always to be short.

Thank you Miguel! I guess they are hoping folks are not smart enough to
figure out that they continue with their “tricks”! How sad that moderators
don’t respond to concerns as well!

So, the "best answer to this, is not really an answer!

I have the fitbit sense and while exercising it is consistently UNDERestimating my heart rate.

Others, report OVERestimations.

So, fitbit estimations are all over the place...

This is not just disappointing. **Fitbit should refund/replace all devices with such erroneous HR estimations.**

Unless, of course, this happens to the vast majority of sense devices?

Fitbit: Any ("best") answer to this?

I was giving the new update a few days to see what if any changes happened. I think the lower heart rates may be closer, but the higher ends are still all over the place. On Monday, I took a 50 minute HITT class, 0 minutes in cardio or peak, 10 in the fat burning zone. At times during the class, I could barely talk. Today, I walked for about an hour, I had 5 minutes in my peak, 21 in cardio and 31 in fat burn. It just doesn't make sense. I did walk a couple of hills today, and may have gotten into the peak zone, but the HITT class should have had a minimum of 30 minutes peak. Other workouts during the week, were up and down too. In other words, I really don't see any difference after the update. On a positive note, the update didn't cause any problems.  I don't think it will do any good, but think we should all continue to post about the heart rate just so Fitbit knows we are not going to  let it go.

Sense HR accuracy is still broken. As of now I'm never buying Fitbit again.

I have had issues with my Sense accurately tracking heart rate. It's brand new and was a warranty replacement upgrade for a broken Charge 4. At this point I wish I had gotten the Charge replaced, because that HR sensor at least worked. I've checked the Sense heart rate reading against other sensors and the Sense is way off and has particular difficulty with reading heart rates above ~130 BPM. I wish I had checked out this forum before paying for the Sense. I just assumed the flagship product would work out of the box. Definitely my last Fitbit product.
