I find auto display on doesn't always work. So i have to rotate my wrist once or twice faorly rapidly to make it come on. This is irritating. I think the motion sense trigger needs to be more sensitive

Try a Restart and do it several times if necessary.

I would not advise a rapid twist of the arm, but a smooth 90° rotation with the forearm horizontal. 

I find that the display lights up if the forearm is within 30° of horizontal.
