Sense: Had a full charge, died in the pool, severely overheated on charging.

Hi there. My Fitbit Sense (purchased on release 2020) has completely died. I wore it a day ago when going swimming. It's been in water before without issue.

When I went to the gym, the device had about an 85% charge. I wore it into the pool, swam for about 25 minutes, stopped in the sauna for about 3-4 minutes, then saw that it had totally died.

When I got home, I put it on its charger. A few hours later, I went to check its charge and realized the thing was blazing hot - I nearly burned my hand - so I removed it from the charger. It's now cooled down, but no amount of fidgeting/button pushing can get it to turn back on.

Is it possible that it completely shorted out from having gone into a hot room after being submerged? That shouldn't have caused anything. I also admit that I didn't look at it before entering the sauna; it might have died in the pool.

Has this happened to anyone else and is it salvageable?

@SunsetRunner  I would think water has leaked into your Sense, based on the fact it became "burning hot", indicating a short circuit.

I think the sauna may be outside the operating temperature. See page 76

@Clove6060 , I don't see why ourtside operating temp should "kill" the device. It's like when you forget your fun on the dashboard on a warm summer day. It comes back to life when temp drops. Besides, it doesn't explain the short circuit.

@LokeAa

I can imagine a steam room where high heat compromises the glue/seal and the sauna humidity/moisture invades the watch. Not a good combo in my mind.

Most saunas are 150-175 Degrees Fahrenheit or higher and Infrared saunas are typically 120-130 Fahrenheit.

Thanks everyone. It's definitely a short circuit, not fixable. I'll contact Customer Support to determine what might have happened and make sure not to let that happen with another model.

This happened to me too! It was fully charged, then i went swimming for 20 mins and it died so I tried to charge it and it was burning hot. I disconnected it from the charger as soon as i felt the temperature and now a day later I've tried charging it again and it is still completely dead after 5 hours on the charger.
