Sense Tracking Sleep when off wrist.

Hi

Every so often I take my Sense off as per the advice that comes with it just to give my wrist a rest from having the device on 24/7.  Unfortunately if I take it off for more than 2 hours at a time it decides I was sleeping and logs it.

I can find plenty of articles with people saying it's not tracking sleep at night, mines fine on that front.  When take it off the red and green sensors are flashing away almost constantly which seem fairly pointless.  My Android Wear device seemed aware when I took it off and didn't log things so I'm unsure why an arguably better product is struggling, unless I'm missing a setting.

I've tried a factory reset of the watch with no improvement so open to any other suggestions.

Thanks

Paul

If you place it on the charger it should turn off the sensors and not record as sleep.

But is that the only option?  It seems a bit poor that theres no way to avoid it tracking sleep without it being on charge.

I had the same issue. Found that if you place it face down (screen side down) when not wearing it the green light will stop flashing and it will not track sleep (or intense activity, as it was for me).

Interesting, I'll give that a try.

I'm having this issue as well. 😖 I'm trying the face down fix now - too soon to say if it works. Unfortunately, most of the time when I take it off, it's not on a flat surface, but instead I've put it into a pocket or a bag. In both cases, it has still counted sleep time. I've stopped wearing it to bed because it hasn't collected an accurate sleep reading in months. 😠

But this raises a different question: If any reflection of its own light bouncing back (from a flat surface, or even a dark pocket or purse) is used to determine that the user is wearing the Sense...how is it differentiating the signals for heart rate? Admittedly I don't fully understand how it measures the items it reports - but if it can't tell whether it's on a living being with a heartbeat vs. a solid, inanimate object...then is it really doing what it says??? 🤔
