So far the battery life has been excellent and as advertised. It also will vary on use.

I'm getting the expected 4-5 days, even with the SpO2 face that is known to eat battery life. Sorry but putting the complete message in the title, will not provide much information. By short life, how short are we talking about?
As for staying connected, Fitbit doesn't try to keep your tracker connected to your phone 24 hours a day. Doing so would drastically reduce the time between charges. Fitbit should be a trusted Bluetooth device, which should allow for any requested communication between the two devices.
It would be helpful to have included the phone model.

Watch and phone communicate with each other through Bluetooth. WiFi is used for firmware update and music. I don’t think you need to connect to WiFi from beginning, it’s just a one time setup when you first setup your watch after that you will always see your network in the Fitbit app on the phone. Just press the connect button to connect to your WiFi network.

The watch has to be on its charger and charging, before its WiFi is even turned on.
I'm not sure what is meant by restarting from beginning, or what is it that doesn't work.
As @forthewatch mentioned, WiFi is not used during a sync, notifications, on a walk, etc.
Updates and loading of music, neither of which will be done multiple times a day.
