Sense, where are the remaining laps of swimming?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Update: seems like they appeared. Not sure if something wrong with syncing or something else. Interesting, now yet another reason for not buying Sense 2 which misses this feature:

Not much use though if there is no other metrics Why calories? Are there no swimmers working for Fitbit to know what should be shown under this feature?

Style detection fails, too. No lap was done with backstroke (all freestyle plus few kick drills).

Original post:

I went back from Sense 2 to original Sense because it's featured a lot better for swimming. However, there is an issue. I see 10 laps at the end of activity but then there is a note telling me to find remaining laps in the mobile app:

So watch shows first 10 of 33 (I skip the issue of wrong count). The remaining laps are nowhere to be found in the app. The feature (which existed) has been removed from the app yet the Sense hasn't been updated to reflect that. That only shows how little Fitbit cares. Or am I missing something and there is a way to see the remaining laps? 🤔 (Edit: yes, I seem to be missing something).

Moderator edit: clarified subject.

Hi, @t.parker , it is correct to say that sometimes it takes several syncs for all the data to come through.  I’m glad that it is all there now.  If you are happy with your Sense then I agree there doesn’t seem much reason to change.  I always keep my Fitbits while they are working well and then I see what changes have been made when I am ready to upgrade.

@Julia_G I gave away my Sense 2 to my family member who owned Charge 2 (for him it is an upgrade). Now when I'm "re-discovering" my old Sense, I see more issues related to swimming. I'm not complaining, it's just a few things I observed as I didn't do much proper swimming with old Sense (I did a lot more with Sense 2).

- My stroke is always detected as backstroke which is not even close to freestyle (which should be detected). Some watches mix up freestyle with breaststroke when the swimmer drops an elbow early (which is a problem of technique) but I don't know what would have to happen to detect backstroke by mistake (totally different motion).

- On the picture you can see pace and time but this data is not in the app. Instead, calories are useless. Calories are a total guess. For example, when swimming with a pull buoy I can go faster yet with less effort but that inflates calories from that segment of the workout. Considering detecting the wrong stroke that will affect calories, too (if Fitbit takes into account the stroke efficiency).

- I need to use laps to get the breakdown. I swim 25m pool. Why minimum lap is 50m or 2 lengths of pool? I understand there is the assumption that full lap is back and forth but then there is a lack of consistency. I can set a 50m lap for a 50m pool. Even if there was anything to analyze, the way Fitbit decided to group and show data makes it impossible. It looks like applying logic from other sports to swimming without understanding swimming.

- It's good to get a breakdown for laps but such a breakdown should be done also per length.

- Counting lengths are not always accurate and usually ends up inflated by 4-5 lengths (today 3 lengths, yesterday 5) but there is no way to tell which lengths are bogus because of lack of lengths breakdown.

Despite Sense being a lot better than Sense 2 when it comes to swimming tracking it lacks basic features that make swim tracking useful. This is a theme for other sports, too. Or do I just expect too much from a simple activity tracker? 🤔
